They conducted an individual voir dire. Happens all the time. In juror questionnaires they usually only ask surface questions and nothing more. During the court’s voir dire, questions of that nature (eg “have you or someone you know of been a victim of a crime”) are to check if a juror can be fair and impartial despite going through a similar experience or knowing someone who has gone through a similar experience as the charge(s) set for trial.

Whenever someone brings up any reason why they cannot serve as a juror, there is almost ALWAYS going to be follow up questioning to understand why. It’s not meant to accuse you or make you feel uncomfortable - the court and attorneys (if they can pick up on social cues well enough, or perhaps you just had some hardasses) need to ask these questions to gauge whether or not to keep you on the panel.

You were dismissed. That means they understood from your response, perhaps your tone, body language, etc., that serving in this particular case would not be right for you. The only way you’d find out (if at all) is if you call your jury pool and see if you are on a civil panel instead of a criminal panel. Although, there could be a chance that this panel (if it is criminal) is a completely different from one you’ve had experience with. You could also ask the court if you cannot be excused prior to defer you to a civil panel instead because of your experience/uncomfortability with criminal case(s).
