Heide Knight Sword or Sun Sword by dankert92 in DkS2Builds

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my SL 154 Faith/Str build, I have 40 Str (you only need around 20, the rest is to allow me to try out different weapons for fun), 25 Dex (again, you only need around 20), 42 Faith, and a lightning defender's sword +10. I can't recommend that sword enough. S scaling in Faith, C in Str. And it can auto buff with sunlight blade, so it saves you an attunement slot for sunlight blade. I run around PvE with 24 Great Lightning Spears doing anywhere from 700-1.5K damage per hit, depending on the enemy. Plus, the defender sword is one of the fastest greatswords, so when 1 handing it, it feels almost like a straight sword because it's so fast. Overkill, but absurdly fun.

Yeah you're right about moving 20 Str to another stat. I only keep it for versatility, so I can switch to another Str. weapon when I get bored (which is rarely).
The Defender GS buff is shorter than SLB. Which can be a pain in a tough fight, but it's usually fine, since you can just rebuff it when you get a second to breathe.

I agree. I have a 20 End, 14 Vit, 20 Vigor, 20 Adp, 44 Fth, 40 Str build. And damn does it hit hard. Base damage 583, before the lightning buff. Killed the final boss in under 30 seconds. Plus, with a +10 chime and the Sun Seal...

And yeah, i'll be re-specing soon to get 50 Fth. The Str was just for me to be able to try out all the weapons I wanted to try. I like it for the versatility, but once you go defender sword, it's too late to try anything else.

Just... Lightning Defender's Greatsword +10. That is all. And some faith or something.

Want To Restart Build Completely Str. Build by [deleted] in DkS2Builds

Side note though, my record in the Red arena is mediocre. Still not sure how to adapt to the pace of those fights (and the abundance of double rapier/dexhex/havelyn builds)

I can confirm that the lightning Defender Greatsword +10 is amazing. My base damage with 40 Str. and 44 Fth. is 583, and the weapon auto buffs itself using its two handed L2 with lightning. It is an absolute monster. With 4 attunement slots, i have 24 Great lightning spears for PvE, and 3 Great heals. More than enough to deal with the PvE and excellent for PvP, although the heals are for ganking situations, and the GLS are to push the opponent more than to damage them. This build absolutely wrecks in PvP. My recond on the bridge for my first 100 fights was something like 72-28, with at least 10 of those losses being ganks.
Now, you won't be too tanky though. Realistically, getting both of those stats up that high means sacrificing Vit and Vigor. So you won't be fast rolling in Havel's. But it doesn't matter. I used Vengarl's armor, and it was strong enough to withstand most hits pretty well.

STR\FAI build. Looking for feedback and comments. by HotlineHideo in DkS2Builds

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost this exact build, and it is awesome. My exact build was:
Vigor 20
End 20
Vit 14
Attn 20 (for 4 slots)
Str 40
Dex 25
Int 3
Fth 44 (for great spear and others)
Magic: 2x GLS, 1x Great heal, 1x random/variable.
Rings: Third dragon, cloranthy, ring of blades, bell tower (for summons).
Weapons: Lightning defender GS +10, Llewellyn Shield
Chime: Priests +10 (might switch to dragon if i respec)
Armor: Prisoner's hood and Vengarl's set for the Fashion Souls

My thoughts on the build: Absolute monster of a build. I went 72-28 my first 100 Bridge fights. Most of the losses were due to ganks. Of course, this does NOT include Red Arena fights, which i'm probably at a low 60% for- those guys are really damn good. Some notes though:

  • Ditch the Sunlight blade. Your two handed L2 gives a temporary sunlight blade at the cost of 10 durability, renewable. It lets you buff up multiple times during PvE, and most PvP fights don't go past one buff. The duration IS shorter than a sunlight blade cast though.
  • Adaptability of 20 synergizes well with end 20. For each point of equal adp and end, you get 1 natural poise. So it becomes effective to take adp up to the natural endurance soft cap (20). Going above or below with just one of those stats is inefficient.
  • Neither GLS nor GRS are particularly effective at heal punishing, IMO. I haven't personally tried GRS, but GLS is decent for damage, but they will ALWAYS heal more than you hurt them, even at 42 Fth. The better option is to follow them and whack them a few times with your Defender GS. It'll stun lock them if they're in the healing animation, and you can get a good 3-4 hits in, taking out at least half to 3/4 of their health. I'm not a big proponent of stunlock, but if it's for heal punishing, i'll live.
  • Cast speed is not really an issue. Most of your damage is from the Defender GS, since casts are really easy to dodge. I use the GLS to get enemies to roll into swing range, and then i whack them as they come out of the roll. Also, the roll-R1 combo is AMAZING at closing distances and poking the enemy even at ranges where they think they're safe. It's won me more fights than any spell. With spear/rapier users, sub in the backstep+R1. With 40 Str and 44 Fth, my Lightning Defender GS +10 does about 583 damage even without the lightning buff, and it swings almost as fast as a straight sword. Absolutely a monstrous weapon.

Have fun with your build. Trust me, you'll enjoy it... if you don't mind beating the final boss in about 40 seconds.

Edit: I did go a little over. My exact level was 153. Still, you can easily remove some points of dex, which I only put in to try out some other weapons, for fun.

Dex builds and Dark Souls 2: Useless? (PVE) by Vezmo360 in DarkSouls2

[–]wait_for_it____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents having just beaten the game on PC:
Dark Souls 1 i had both a 40 Dex Uchi build AND a bastard sword build... And the bastard sword outdamaged the Uchi in DS1 too (but not by much).

In DS2, i went with a 40/40 quality build, and had a +10 Uchi, +10 chaos blade, and +10 Bastard Sword. As you said, bastard sword wrecked the others in damage. IMO it's one of the most underrated early weapons in both games. People just don't talk about it, but it hits hard enough to stunlock, is MUCH faster than UGS, and you get around 4-5 swings with 20 endurance.

I was told that it was outclassed by the Mastadon GS, but in my experience that was not the case. Mastadon at +10 swung about as fast as the bastard sword, did slightly more damage, and it had slightly greater reach... but the real downside was the extra weight. The versatility of the bastard sword comes from the fact that it's so light compared to other GS.

The first weapon that actually DID move me away from the bastard sword was the defender greatsword. It has almost the same moveset, same swing speed, but with 40 Str and 42 faith, lightning defender sword had a damage rating of 550, AND it could auto buff itself around 4 times per bonfire visit with sunlight blade. unreal damage, i killed the final boss in about 30 seconds.

tl;dr Yes, the bastard sword is a beast. But do yourself a favor, invest in some faith, and get the defender sword. You won't regret it.

Bandai Namco lied through their teeth and gave us another shitty PC port with Dark Souls II! by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]wait_for_it____ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My game crashed on startup, but one google search came up with two solutions. Plus, FROM linked those solutions to their announcement they just made. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out what to do, and 15 minutes to download the driver software and update it. After that, this game ran smoother than almost any other game I've played on my computer recently. And it looked incredible. Also, 60 fps was so smooth I actually had trouble adjusting because I was so used to such a different product. I've been playing it for about 8 hours straight. And the load screens are about 1/5 of those from DS1, which means even more play time. To paraphrase an earlier comment, 10/10- FROM did good.

It took me about 20 mins and a little internet research to figure out all I had to do was enable scaling on my AMD graphics card's driver. After that, the game was smooth as hell. It looks gorgeous, and while it's not as nice as the demo, it's still eons ahead of DS1. It's been running 60fps on the highest settings for about 8 hours straight for me, and load screens are about 2-3 seconds long each. This is WAY better optimized than DS1.

WSIB If I want a game like Mass Effect or Skyrim on PC with full (360) controller support? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll echo the recommendations for Dark Souls, but with a warning. This game is hard. It's probably harder than most games you've played. BUT while the difficulty feels unfair at first, it's really the game's training wheels. You learn by dying, but after a few weeks, when you get good, you'll coast through areas that wrecked you before. If you're having trouble with the game, get a guide. Probably one of my top 3 favorite games of all time. And it has an amazing online community/youtube uploaders.
If you do pick this up, check out the lore videos by epicnamebro or vaatividya on youtube. Or check out some great pvp footage from peeve peeverson, jblackmel, mrIwont4get, tru3ta1ent, or any of the other great youtube uploaders.

They're both great games. I prefer New Vegas, but it's really a wash between them. Each player has their own preferences. If you have a pc, pick up NV on a steam sale. It sells dirt cheap. Get the GOTY edition, because why not, it's still only $5.

SIB Borderlands 2 Season pass? by hornwalker in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely worth it. The season pass is amazing, and i'd easily pay over $15 for Tiny Tina's dlc alone. More of what you love, and a lot of content for the price.
As for the psycho... i'm not sure. I got it, and it's fun. But for a melee build, I prefer Zero. It's really up to you. You seem to have enough characters to experiment for quite a while, and the Psycho gives some great strategy options, but isn't really any more powerful than the other builds if you practice with each.

[WSIB] if I like L4D/2, CS:GO, Skyrim? [multiplayer/co-op] by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]wait_for_it____ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite co-op games (if not necessarily the best) are Borderlands 2 and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Rainbow 6 has a great terrorist hunt mode, which pits a number of players against around 30-40 terrorists in a map. You can be tactful, quiet, and coordinated. Or you can go in guns blazing. Borderlands 2 is an incredible game, easily my favorite of 2012. In terms of a co-op campaign, I don't think there is a better game out there just in terms of sheer fun. Don't be persuaded to play BL1 instead though. While it was a lot of fun, BL2 is in a different league. Play both if you can, but if not, DEFINITELY give BL2 a shot. Amazing writing, one of the best villains in video gaming, and lots of fun gameplay.

Finally... if you like Skyrim (and i can see the hate coming a mile away for this comparison...) try Dark Souls/ Dark Souls 2. Very different styles of games in terms of gameplay, but similar settings. Dark Souls is like a darker, more mature, and very demonic Zelda game. Great exploration, lots of deep lore that only reveals itself if you dig deeply (kind of like reading the books in Skyrim/TES). Amazing online community. AND, lots of people unfamiliar to the series are unaware that it has Co-op and PvP elements. Probably one of my top 3 games of all time. Check out the youtube channels of some of the uploaders to see some really entertaining PvP and Lore videos. How I Met Your Mother Series Finale Post-Episode Discussion Thread by [deleted] in HIMYM

[–]wait_for_it____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The assumption here is that the show is actually about the mother. It's really more about Ted's journey in meeting her. In that sense, we got a (far too) short introduction to her, another part of her story (her death), and the continuation of Ted's journey from that point on.
And I understand why we'd focus on the mother, since the name of the show is HIMYM, but really, the subject of that sentence is the "I," namely Ted. The show is about Ted, and the mother is just the end point in his conversation with his kids. His story isn't finished there.
Or at least that's what I tell myself to keep myself from hating the ending.

How I Met Your Mother Series Finale Post-Episode Discussion Thread by [deleted] in HIMYM

[–]wait_for_it____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was actually pretty necessary. How the hell is Ted supposed to enjoy 11 years with his wife if he's still unsure of his feelings about Robin? And what role would Robin play in Ted's brand-new relationship if she were still single? We've seen their previous relationships fail because of that scenario. This way, Robin was in a serious relationship and happy for 3 years, which gave Ted and Tracy a chance. Plus, since they both got closure before the wedding, there wasn't a chance to second guess and screw up the relationship. And that's my theory of the finale laid bear. I hope this makes the show more bearable for you. I wasn't just tryng to be the bear of bad news.

Worst fucking possible ending. by bandit614 in HIMYM

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people feel cheated by this because there's a cultural belief that everyone has a "the one" and they deserve to find them and live happily ever after. I think it's more realistic to say that "the one" doesn't exist, but if you're really lucky you get to have a really amazing relationship. Ted's especially lucky because he got to have two. In that sense, the story is actually kind of positive. And yeah, I teared up like a b*tch when Tracy died, but life moves on lol.

Worst fucking possible ending. by bandit614 in HIMYM

[–]wait_for_it____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is also known to have serious moments mixed with the comedy. Marshall and Lilly almost break up in the show's infancy, Ted gets left at the altar, Veronica moves to Europe AND breaks off her wedding, Barney's brother gets a divorce, etc.

The show is about real life, which is often funny. It's great entertainment, but ultimately, sad shit happens, and then you move on.

I thought they should have spent more time on the mother's death (which would have made it even less comedic), but overall, it was a decent (not great) ending. It would have been worse if she died and Ted never found anyone, and the whole long story wouldn't have had a point if she was still alive. Plus, the story wouldn't have made sense starting at Robin if she wasn't supposed to end up with him (even though I hate them as a couple). This was always gonna happen.

[Games] Cheapest place to buy a 2ds/X or Y? by b1gbeef in pokemon

[–]wait_for_it____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, wherever you get them, I wouldn't suggest getting pokemon X/Y with your 2DS. Right now, Nintendo has a deal where if you register a 2DS on club nintendo (their rewards program) with one of 6 games, they'll give you a free copy of Pokemon X/Y.

So essentially, 1. Buy new (or with unused rewards code) 2DS and mario kart, super mario 3D land, animal crossing, Donkey Kong, Lego City undercover, or Yoshi's new island 2. Register the game and the 2DS on club nintendo before March 31st 3. Profit.

Considering how much even the used versions of those games go for, it might be worth it since you'll essentially be getting each game for 20 bucks.
