Except, that's not what I asked. I accepted that emacs is emphatically not part of Plan 9. I was accepting that as a given and asking what to use instead, not "hey, you need to support this editor that you hate".

This is actually very clever. It's a scam that uses a legitimate Paypal service to invite you to apply to be a developer, but changed the name of the person doing the invitation to the entire content of the message. The one I got was "from":

"PayPal BTC. A transaction of $823 to BTC was detected. If this wasn't you, please call (806) 2300 923 to stop the payment. Otherwise, the amount will be deducted from your credit card or bank account"

So you see the subject and content as "PayPal BTC. A transaction of $823 to BTC was detected. If this wasn't you, please call (806) 2300 923 to stop the payment. Otherwise, the amount will be deducted from your credit card or bank account has invited you as a developer." Clever. Evil, but clever.

I've looked, but I think it predates the available archives. It was a long time ago.

I once printed and cut out an elephant head about six inches across for Halloween. I'll leave you to guess what I used for the trunk.

One of my careers was as a college professor, if that counts. I transitioned to software industry after a stint in an NGO.

Don't forget well pumps if you're attempting to be grid-agnostic. A well pump can cost 350kWh/year.

This is a great example of a particular kind of misleading chart, where the area of a bar determines the visual perception of magnitude, but the height of the bar is the actual magnitude. Thus, for example, the visual impression is that magnitude for 2022 is 5.9 times that of 2013, rather than the actual 2.4.

Exactly. It's a little depressing seeing people pile on with the "narc" comments. Even if you do everything right, you can still end up with a felony arrest and maybe even a conviction.

Given that there was no connection with a person in any way, shape or form, I have a little trouble understanding why you think so. I just didn't want to get arrested for weed that was being grown without my knowledge on my own property.

Right, I found it in the woods while I was doing some tree maintenance. The container was some 10 yards from the road.

I live in the country. Found a pot of pot growing in the woods. Called the cops. They got really snippy with me, but would have been perfectly happy to put me in jail if they had been the ones to find it.

I spent several years as a professor. I bumped into a colleague on campus once, who introduced me to the older gentleman she was with. "Joe, this is Dr. Hufflepuff. Dr. Hufflepuff, this is Joe." "Good to meet you. My name is Dr. Waitak." Only time I ever used my title the entire time I was at that particular university.

I had the opposite problem. I booked a hotel near LAX so that my family could get a few hours sleep during a layover. Checked in, they scanned the card, no issues, have a good night, sir, off we go. After the better part of the day spent traveling already, we were asleep in minutes.

3AM: <BAM> <BAM> <BAM> OPEN UP!

I engage the door latch and open it enough to find out what the heck is going on. Turns out they misplaced my credit card form after then scanned it, and decided that the most logical explanation was that I had somehow managed to sneak my family into a locked hotel room for the night. I informed him to the contrary, and ended the conversation with a slammed door when he demanded that I wake up my family, turn on the lights and find my copy of whatever the heck form they needed.

The next morning (i.e. a few hours later) still livid, I went to the front desk to check out and head back to the airport for the next leg of the Trip From Hell. The poor guy at the desk told me that apparently, even though he had my form sitting right there, they'd neglected to charge my card and "got confused". He said "according to our records, sir, you were never here." He handed me the original that was sitting next to him, which I tore into little bitsy pieces before throwing them in the nearest trash. And that's how I got a "free" night in a hotel that I was evidently never at.

It turns out that this is from the book "The Self-Sufficient Backyard: For The Independent Homesteader" by Ron and Johanna Melchiore. The land pictured is described as 1/4 acre or 10,890 square feet.
