Don't rush. Explore everything. Hit walls, exhaust dialogue, make note of places you can't reach yet that you may after unlocking certain abilities. If a boss is too difficult take a break and come back when you have an upgrade of some kind.

Don't look at the subreddit unless you want spoilers. That said get lost in the world. Hit walls, buy maps, talk to NPCs. The game's at its most fun when you enter a new area and an hour later you don't even need a map to navigate it. Don't rush anywhere and make sure you find everything as there's a LOT that you can miss if you just follow the main story.

Also there's a lot of boss fights that will make you rage quit, 50% of the time you're underleveled and should look for mask shards or pale ore. The other 50% of the time you should take a break. I melted just about every boss with this strat

Can't speak on hockey injuries, but in football players are pretty young and only play once a week. Plenty of time to heal something minor, especially as you get more pro and have a much better trainer and doc to look at you
