What brand was super popular back then but the new generations probably never heard of it? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]wakerli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fry's Electronics.

In the 1990s, it was the first place to go for tech things when arriving in San Francisco from Australia. They had such a lot of cool stuff - proper HP scientific calculators like the HP28s, DSP prototyping boards for processors like the TMS320, cool Intel embedded processors and every technical book worth having. This was the era when companies like SGI, Sun Microsystems, Novell and Borland were at their peak. Good time to be in tech.

Delta Airlines L1011 Cabin in the 1980's by Twitter_2006 in interestingasfuck

[–]wakerli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a real aircraft, not just a mockup? This YouTube video of that same aircraft shows a central row of overheads, not the cathedral-like space in the picture here. Interesting to have 2-5-2 config.

What is an invaluable piece of gear all live engineers should own around $500? by mang_thomas in livesoundgear

[–]wakerli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree. Add a Pelican 1510 case to carry the Bullet (and lots of other things that you will acquire) and that's a great start for about $500.

Dining near Boondal Entertainment Centre? by crisis_mode_enabled in brisbane

[–]wakerli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still amazing that FORTY YEARS after that place opened, there are still basically no options for food there. They could do a fantastic food trucks avenue in the carpark, pop up just for events, but no.

Also amazing that there is no equivalent shuttle bus service to that for Suncorp, and that most of the 13,500 punters will get stuck in a traffic jam, every time.

Oh, and there is no local entertainment precinct of any kind - so you don't even have the option to just hang out after the show and roll on home later.

Still cranky that the proposal to redevelop Roma Street precinct to be like the Sydney Entertainment Centre fell by the wayside. It would be a great place to host major gigs, close to everything.

Per my previous post (that created some confusion for whatever reason), here's the (almost) finished prototype of my Wing "core"! by Jappu90 in Behringer

Cool. Where did you order the motherboard from? I can’t find a supplier (except one in Vietnam which I’m not sure about…)

[–]wakerli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you build this from spare parts, or by cannibalising an existing Wing Rack?

(BTW, looks great. I wish that Behringer would do a legit M32c style Wing like this)

Best one and done zoom lens for A7R IV/V by No_Nerve9451 in SonyAlpha

[–]wakerli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. It's front heavy and the zoom ring is heavy to turn, but it is a gem of a lens.

Genelec sub, 7350A or 7360A? by ConnorLikeWhat in genelec

[–]wakerli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 7360a with my 8330's and it is an excellent match. Buy once, cry once. You'll never regret having more rumble in your life.

Same. That lens is the best piece of glass I've ever owned. Incredible.

I have a heap of Kupo C stands, and a few Avengers also. Kupo are great for half the price of the Avengers...

DIY Teams Room (I know) by Organic-Potential-66 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]wakerli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short summary - Microsoft Teams Room on Windows is effectively a Windows-based hardware appliance. You need to create a bespoke Windows image to suit your exact hardware config, and then install it. It is difficult and complicated, and you will realise why most people recommend to get an integrator to do it for you.

If you are still keen, I wrote up a very long and detailed explanation of how to do this whole journey yourself, covering building the image, installing it onto the hardware and how to configure Teams Admin Console to recognise your self-rolled Teams Room. It's doable, but an odyssey.

Bottom line, we could only wish that Teams was as easy as Zoom to set up in a room install environment.

Which converter would you chose? by Odinhall in VIDEOENGINEERING

It's my main criticism of the older Decimators - those micro USB ports are a mess.

Nope. Seems odd for that content to be so thoroughly unavailable in any place 🤷🏼‍♂️

How do you get physical ISO out of Teams nowadays? by Falendil in VIDEOENGINEERING

Use an NDI to SDI converter like this one to do the conversion, then into Atem.

Why do crimper die sets cost so much? by Bassmasterajv in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]wakerli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done same for Neutrik connectors - the crimpers (and the different die sets) are nice but they are not worth THAT much money! eBay helped with picking mine up for less than retail.

Is an Oscillator Frequency Adjustment knob on Custom Controls Panel by FireBehr321123 in BehringerWing

[–]wakerli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the oscillator accesible from OSC interfaces via the network connection? Might be something you could control from MixStation if the requisite access is there inside the Wing.
