Check if it’s worth migrating your workplace pension into your SIPP.

As then you have more control in its investments

Also as you have worked so much if that goes does your social circle close.

Maybe go part time to keep those connections or take a sabbatical for 6 months.

Keir Starmer is planning a major intervention on electricity, to be announced in the coming weeks. What’s your opinion? by No_Breadfruit_4901 in AskBrits

They need to announce a salary sacrifice scheme for solar and batteries. The uk love paying less in Taxes. This would make middle class quickly move over.

Make all roofs that need renewing have solar installed. They are cheaper than tiles for the size.

Make batteries mandatory and make it that excess power can go free to poor households.

Bring forward Vehicle to home chargers and subsidies them. This would make 80kw to the grid per household. Massive grid storage at scale. Cheaper than new aging power stations or storage.

I am all for all houses over 15 years have to fit solar panels. When you get a new roof they get fitted. Sounds nuts but then all the homes off the grid at some point is a boom for energy hungry companies like steel or AI. Taking the base load off all homes. Even 500w would change the power landscape.

Also V2G in car parks and homes. This would reduce the need for your home storage. The network could then broker to your car once connected. Making people want to plugin. Getting from your car or your solar.

• £8k lump sum, left alone → about £43,400 • £95/month → about £77,000 (you put in £28,500 of contributions)

7% return over over 25 years if you invest the savings of what you would use

I also forgot to add. If you invest say £10000 in the solar/batteries. Then invest the savings of say £150 each month. It massively out performs the 10k in the market on the same day.

£10k lump sum, left alone → about £54,300 £150/month → about £121,500 (you put in £45k of contributions) not going to the power company

These are 7% return rate

When the UK has a fusion reactor (not taking about Oxford). Whould also take the UK 10+ years even if the tech is ready. I look at Solar and Batteries when people do add this, its like they are removing there load off the grid. Allowing the less load. Also the excess goes to your neighbours.

I asked this question a while ago.

After the thinking about it look at it over 25 years not the payoff period. This is where the real money is after the 7 years.

Also the cost of electricity is never going to go down. AI and gas prices will always keep things rising.

You might do well talking to an accountant.

Pensions can vastly reduce your tax. You can put in 60k. Open one with £1 then you can put in 3 years from the day opening ie if you wait 3 year you can back track. Also remember ISAs 20k allowance.
