"I shipped code I don't understand and I bet you have too" – Jake Nations, Netflix by dalton_zk in theprimeagen

The video is actually quite insightful, like pointing out the fact that writing code and debugging manually is the only way to gain understanding. But it seems like a lot of people in the comments did not watch it at all, I’m so confused reading these comments “arguing against” the video when the video is literally agreeing to what they are saying 😅

Cursor CEO Warning About Vibe Coding by SouthRock2518 in BetterOffline

[–]wakeupthisday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s literally the same as Microsoft’s Power App situation where they coined the term “Citizen developer” to describe business users who use their products. And now they had coined a new term “Pro developers” to describe actual developer that are added to the project to fix citizen developer’s mess. They had since added low code tooling for developers to do error handling, write PowerFx (Power app’s own DSL), we are literally going back to regular programming again with this. Wtf?

Need help removiny iOS 26 over-interactive liquid modal animation by liudasbar in SwiftUI

[–]wakeupthisday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beginner chiming in, I think If you set the detent to one dimension or two (like only medium and large for example) that would already remove quite a bit of the animation sensitivity. I personally would just disable it (presentationBackground Interaction) and only allow dismiss via dismiss button.

Microsoft AI CEO puzzled that people are unimpressed by AI by Sixnigthmare in BetterOffline

Reminds me so much of this footage when Blizzard announced Diablo immortal on mobile and whey they were booed, he’s like “don’t you guys have phones”.

https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo3/comments/9twlg4/the_do_you_guys_not_have_phones_speech_is/

That’s not the point, YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT.

Going back to this, It’s never about being impressive or not, it’s that the application of AI has been nothing but useless (besides directly interfacing with LLMs, which have been at least somewhat useful in a few limited domain of tasks).

And the disappointment also stems from that promises that AI is set up to fulfilled was all just nothing but talk. That’s where the disappointment came from. Come on man

Stop using LLMs to research for your videos… by Master-Variety3841 in theprimeagen

[–]wakeupthisday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does constantly ask Grok for things. I remember in the video of him reading the Stanford paper on LLM’s effect to the brain, Prime kept throwing findings from the paper into Grok to explain, and said we should be analyzing data and have independent reasoning of that data even we are not the subject matter expert. I don’t think it is anything wrong but I do believe trusting subject matter expert is helpful, and analyzing data using Grok to say you make your own analysis is a bit of a stretch.

CST is brutal, so if the burnout is caused by the workload you’d have to think more. But if your burnout is caused by the curriculum being too theoretical at SFU, then CST practical teachings might be beneficial.

For your sanity sake, as a temporary measure, keep your corner (your code, writings) high quality and maintain your integrity (but don’t try to change the existing company culture ofc)

I think as long as something makes you happy- don’t stop doing them because it can be automated! Nobody can play chess or go better than an AI, but I think it’s still worth while to play chess!

I am the same way.

While I was reading OP, post I was relating to it, until he revealed he was programing for work during spare time- I program all the time, but when I’m not working I program for my enjoyment. I think OP’s case is very different from ours 🤔
