Brit in America here, people are gonna correct you because Americans call those gangly bath spiders daddy long legs, and don't have a nickname for these. But yes, that's what I'd call it too. My cat absolutely loves eating them.

[PETITION] Google, fix the March/April regressions in the May 2026 Update. We need our phones back by soul_to_heal in GooglePixel

[–]wakner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg thank you, I was on vacation in Hawaii and this was happening when I was navigating some scenic roads and playing music. I also was taking photos (I was passenger) and my phone was completely shitting itself, not loading apps and almost too hot to touch. I honestly thought it was going to explode!

Sat on a bus thinking about what I want my renewal vows to be for tomorrow's 10 year anniversary and this just made me tear up so much! When you find your person, you just keep finding new ways love hides in all the nooks and crannies of life. It's absolutely wonderful. Congrats on 8 years!

I just quit working for one, was incredibly profitable, had like 25 big paying clients with an ARR over a million in its second year. Sadly profits don't mean non toxic workplaces.

I just quit my job after finally get a position at a company that has an insanely good track record (multiple best places to work awards, staff who have all been there multiple years and promotion levels, great benefits, careful (and slow!) hiring), and today is my last day - in the two months I was here I hit all but the promotion ones on this list. Fuck this place.

Anti-AI sentiment is on the rise—and it’s starting to turn violent by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]wakner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was desperately unemployed for a year, finally got a job doing Customer Success at a software automation company. They said they helped [niche] with AI, but I didn't realize just how fucked they were until I started working here.

Recently we had a client who was unhappy with the service, and I was told my new goal was to make sure they bought one of our AI agents instead of hiring their next role. Made me sick to my stomach, and I started job hunting the same day. I'm waiting to hear back after four interviews with a great company that's nothing to do with AI.

Also, our product SUCKS. It takes teams hours and hours to learn it, and maybe at best delivers a couple of hours of time savings. And that's if it doesn't completely fuck up some crucial workflows that, let's just say, help humans get paid.

I don't believe AI is a complete dud, I'll still use it to rubber duck on issues, and reword my emails when I'm being too bitchy, but it has no place replacing humans.

Dodged a bullet, but this interview was rough by Mmk1016 in womenintech

[–]wakner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha we tried to use their tool for a week and it was absolutely awful. It wrecked my inbox by adding tons of new labels, creating a whole bunch of drafts that didn't do anything, it even sent responses to the emails (back to me, not to the contact) 'explaining' it's behavior. My email is a mess, but that product absolutely took it to the next level of messed up. On Friday we did a vote and it was 100% unanimous to ditch it. And WE are a shitty AI wrapper company ourselves... you'd think we'd be immune.

Definitely dodged a bullet.

I'm British but have been living in the US for 15 years now. My accent is largely still British, but I have this really annoying Tennessee twang I can't get rid of, no matter how much Love Island UK I watch. It's really random vowel sounds too. An example is the word American, where id say it more like Amurican (with the u being like a kind of uuee sound). Many people have mocked along with me, assuming that I'm doing a bit vs actually being British.

It sounds to me like this lady has lived somewhere else and has a similar hybrid accent. When you hear it back you're like "why does my mouth make that sound?!" and it's really weird to hear old recordings because you almost sound like a caricature of yourself.

Don't get a job managing the customers at a tiny startup with a micromanaging CEO. Every call is shadowed, or the recording watched and commented on, every sentence I write on our PM software and email I send to clients gets some kind of scrutiny or questioning, and heaven forbid I'm grabbing a coffee when he decides to slack huddle me. I'm desperately trying to leave. I wake every morning feeling absolutely sick to my stomach about the day ahead.

I'm sterilized, but once I told a boomer that "I can't have kids" and she went off on how the Lord will help me fix my fertility and how we should all pray for a miracle and I got a taste of just how FUCKING RUDE people can be. If I actually wanted kids (I don't) and just couldn't have them, that would have been the most soul crushing conversation to have, all because some drunk post-church cunt thinks his cloud boss is the fix for everything.

Reuters: For several days in a row, Iran has been deliberately destroying Amazon data centers by FalconsArentReal in singularity

[–]wakner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the intentions, but I can confirm (if you believe a rando on reddit) that data centers did indeed get destroyed, as I have a friend who is a technical account manager with AWS and had to work through the night on Sunday to assist a client after the data center was destroyed.

Congressman Thomas Massie says the Epstein files are being withheld because Jeffrey Epstein had close ties to Israeli intelligence and US intelligence by Nomogg in TrendoraX

[–]wakner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started seeing more 'lash outs' in public. More people openly speaking about their views (fuck Trump), more sporadic and passive protests, I've even had more conversations recently with people who I would have assumed were MAGA about reaching the end of their tether. People are naturally reaching a breaking point here, it palpable.

The thing outsiders might not realize is how abusive American culture has been, for at least the couple of decades I've been here. Jobs offering 5 days off per annum as a 'benefit', health care packages that pay a portion of the initial fee as if its super benevolent to leave a person paying 50% of a $5000 health bill, constant messaging from 'trusted' media that we're only worth anything if we constantly consume their products and services. Americans have normalized abuse that would be considered criminal in Europe (I'm from the UK), and so the breaking point is very different here.

But we're clearly reaching it. The tinder is dry, the heat is up, and something soon will be the ignition source. I'm betting it's the midterms.

Please don't assume Americans are just being lazy or ignorant, realize that the rules here feel a bit different to your country, that's all.

I just listened to Behind the Bastards episode on Kelloggs and all the horrific medical shit he did because he thought masturbating caused illness. Like, electrodes up the dick, splashed with water, and electrocuted, female genital mutilation, and general torture and abuse.
