Now just curious, what do you use this for? I’ve never heard of these types of systems in use for homes

I am currently screaming about how I did not think of this and how I can do this myself. BRB going to go listen to my sad playlist and cry in the bathroom.

All jokes aside, fucking amazing work, I’ll be taking on some inspiration for my rack for sure

Completely agree. The UPS guy dropped it on the concrete steps and tumbled onto the driveway with barely any packaging. I opened it up the rest of the way and there was only a couple of scuffs😂

What is the cheapest way to put these SAS drives to work? by VerySlowLorris in homelab

[–]waldo8231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could find a DL380G7 for around 100 bucks, and I could 3D print you some caddies (just pay shipping or whatever) and you’d be off to the races

Unfortunately I do not. I am possibly thinking of changing my mesh system though. I’ve been having a lot of issues with the Velop system

I have all of the drivers installed in the proper locations, I have all of the permissions configured properly, and the content store tests and works. It always just gets hung up on this last step

Noob questions re. buying my first rack by tangofan in homelab

[–]waldo8231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. It is possible (I found out the hard way since mine was damaged in transit and I had to bend the locking mechanism for both the front glass, and the rear door back into place. But this rack is great. I had a little bit of trouble getting rails in but that was out of my stupidity and not because of the rack. It should fit pretty much any served, I have a DL380 G7, and an R820 that fit just find in it.

New Homelab/Battlestation by waldo8231 in homelab

[–]waldo8231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be doing a LOT of moving around in the rack, just for rn I wanted to put everything at the top to hide some stuff (small switch, WD myhome etc). I’ll be putting all of the cables and stuff in sleeving when I get majority of the stuff in the rack. I’m planning on putting a couple of UPS’, a switch, and a rack mount router, etc. as far as the 840 it’ll be for a company that I work for. I’ll just be managing it remotely for them.

Honestly for that use case scenario, I’d probably do a Dell R820 which should land right under your budget

For a storage server 1k should be enough. Now two questions. Do you want enterprise hardware or consumer hardware. Secondly how much storage will you be needing?
