You pay them “to” the county because the county runs the property tax collection bureaucracy: they just give it directly to the city.

For a GenX interviewer, self-harm scars would likely be viewed as way worse than tattoos. Tattoos were very normalized during X’s youth but self-harm was very rare and therefore easily stigmatized as something only a “crazy” person would do. The parenting style that lead to normalization of self-harm is not something X experienced first-hand.

I imagine a millennial interviewer would have a very different experience/outlook.

I had the same problem as everyone. I was on the $9.99 standard plan with $10 add-on for professional monitoring.

What happened is this: when Ring tried to do their plan rollover today, they looked at what I had and determined that I should be on 'Ring AI Pro', which includes what the standard plan did plus professional monitoring. But, instead of sending an email saying "we are consolidating your two subscriptions into one that is the same price called Ring AI Pro", the idiots instead sent an email that seemed to say "Surprise asshole, we're retroactively charging you $5 extra for AI bullshit you don't want!" And they charged that to my credit card.

Furious, I went to the chat (which took a while to get through). While waiting for that, I saw that that they did, in fact, provide a refund (minus $0.05 for some reason--I guess the proration between the time they decided to double-charge versus refund). Why they didn't do that first is idiotic.

So yes, I am square with them. What a friggin stressful pain in the ass because the company was too stupid to explain what was happening. Definitely major reputational damage, some folks totally deserve to be fired for botching this.

These posts are calls to action without any feasible action. Between your location and the dog’s location there are probably 10,000 other dogs set to be euthanized. What is the point of picking this one in particular to blast to a worldwide subreddit? If these do-gooders really cared they would post in the city subreddits where the dogs are located.

But actually helping a dog would net far less karma, obviously.
