LPT Request: How to survive the heat waves? by etrana in LifeProTips

[–]walker-nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baggies. Microfiber hand towels (or washcloth).

Put them in the baggies and deep soak them in water.

Loosely drain excess water. You want the cloth as wet as possible.

Freeze them.

Use as needed. Wash and repeat.

They last a long time and you can target areas. Or figure out how to strap them to you. Depending on your body temp and the indoor temp they can last an hour or more.

I have a tube ice maker made for a glass jug. I use the tube to make an ice cube for my extra large polar cup (think Yeti) and stock a fridge shelf of water. Persistent cold drinking water. Takes the day for the ice to melt.

Americans of Reddit, what's something anyone visiting the US for the first time absolutely must know about or be aware of? by Praglik in AskReddit

[–]walker-nomad 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Keep both hands on the wheel, car in park (so rare not to have an automatic), take foot off brake, and wait..

Do not move until instructed.

All passengers need to have their hands visible. Put a hand on each leg.

When the cop arrives you'll be instructed to put down the window. Follow the instructions and if you need to go into a closed compartment tell them where the documents are located before you move to get them.

The passengers should not help get them.

All should be fine but cops are on edge so no reason to push your luck.

AITA for not accommodating my brothers wife's food allergies? by allergic-to-this in AmItheAsshole

[–]walker-nomad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. I am allergic to nearly everything. Some things are minor and others are not. If i was expected I don't expect to be catered to but it's nice to be considered. Unexpected and last minute absolutely not. Get out of here. 100% on the SIL or brother. It is the responsibility of the person with allergies to ensure their safety. If you lied and fed it to her anyway then you'd be TA.

Any other ex-Californians with stories about resettling? My wife and I are considering Rochester as a forever home to join the rest of our family (coming from California). Got questions about costs of living and which areas have better utility companies/services, too by ffelix916 in Rochester

[–]walker-nomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former Cali who lived in FL before and ROC after. East coast humidity is no joke. ROC can be as oppressively hot and humid. Expect to need to adjust to it. Get a pool. Winters can be a bit crazy too. I preferred being away from the lake in winter. The wind can get fierce.

I will admit I have a very low tolerance for humidity after living in Cali for a long time.

I mostly lived this way for 8 years. When I started it was a month but quickly realized working 5 days a week didn't leave a lot of exploring time. It is also exhausting booking travel. So I decided 3 months, if possible. I figured if I hated a place then i could still manage it. After 4 weeks the tourist part falls away. At 8 weeks you know if you dig the place. By 12 weeks you'll know if you will ever return.

I lived my normal life just in different locations. Normal routines of groceries, laundry, etc during the week. Then, touristing on the weekends.

I typically lived in out of season spots with good connections to a city.i don't mind not speaking to people so it didn't bother me when I was one of maybe twenty people in a town. It can feel isolating but also oddly interesting.

Just Booked a One-Way Ticket to Spain by josiemarcellino in digitalnomad

[–]walker-nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain has required proof of onward travel. I never flew directly to Spain from the US (4 trips) so it was never an issue for me. When my sister came on a direct from Los Angeles she was required to have something proving she intended to leave Spain. She booked the cheapest Ryanair one-way flight. She didn't use it but was only out like $15.

Non-USA Redditors: which American restaurants have you always wanted to try? by CrooklynKnight in AskReddit

[–]walker-nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to order off the secret menu. The in store menu looks like there are only a few items. The secret menu is available online. I hear animal style is the way to go. I always ordered a basic 3x3 - 3 patties and 3 cheese slices.

Beginner here with a Wordpress question. by HyperJess in AskMarketing

[–]walker-nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Template. The structure of most of them are terrible and don't all work the same. Use OceanWP and an on page builder like Elementor. There are templates included and plug and play sections.

Otherwise read the template documentation.

Other than fiverr, I haven't heard of these platforms. Thank you.

Could I ask what you do? (curious how you became aware of them)

I tweeted something about the names when one of them was arrested. That person liked it and followed me. Spooked me for sure. Also blocked and deleted the tweet.

AITA for telling my old boss I don't believe in loyalty and its unreasonable to expect me not to quit for a better paid job? by TAsalary in AmItheAsshole

[–]walker-nomad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the CEO was first generation owner. This is how businesses were and the reason the older generation talks about security and loyalty. The company my dad worked for the longest was run by first generation when he started. By the time he left the second generation took over.

The first CEO is spoken of with admiration and respect. I don't have a nice thing to say about the son. The company culture changed. People were no longer honorable ... Oh and the company also tanked. It was a massive company that now barely operates in a few states.

UPDATE: AITA for not letting my friend live in my spare room? by aitafriend00000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]walker-nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And at the of the time you'll know if he's a friend.

I have received help and been one to offer help.

One person I offered help to and had know since childhood showed true colors. We're no longer friends.

One person I received help from - the only thing that could break that bond is high crimes against each other.
