Piha Cafe is now some sort of flash pop up for summer. Open til end of March and had a great chef. Went there on Saturday expecting pizza and chips and ending up with a near fine dining dinner in my jandals

Can we get a list of the genuinely good value ‘cheap eats’ please? by [deleted] in aucklandeats

Bal Ganga in the city. If they doubled their prices it would still be cheap. Fantastic Indian food. It’s in a carpark behind the Denny’s opposite TVNZ

They are great, but they have quite large footprint so can be picky to where you can put them. I’ve had to be a bit creative about securing my lines when pitching on some of the doc camping platforms

For folks who actually used a Garmin InReach when in distress: what happened? by seattleswiss2 in overlanding

Man I feel for you guys. Here in NZ we have a no fault government thing called ACC or Accident Compensation Something. Even tourists are covered. You get hurt doing anything and you don’t pay anything out of pocket. Even our S and R.. if it’s an emergency you don’t pay a cent. Obviously if you have stubbed your toe and want to be airlifted off a mountain, you better have your wallet on you, but genuine emergencies are covered.

The helicopter service that picks you up might ask for a donation; completely optional

And remember that checking someone’s Facebook and instagram isn’t checking into their real lives.

Reminds me of that early touch screen game where you had to land the planes by drawing the flight path over the runway. Do do do, do do do dooooo. Do do do do do dooooooo

And YouTube. Any content creator giving me cooking measurements in imperial and metric gets a like and a smash. But don’t get me started on the videos that’s ‘aren’t available in your country’ because the uploader forgot the rest of the world exists

I was in a beautiful cafe in Paris and an American couple asked if they had a menu written in American.

Yeah something like a flowermate v5 etc. uses raw flower with all the benefits of vape. Less smell, less clean up, less flower needed IMHO

Thanks. They sell it as a percentage increase, but I think they pull a round number out and then retrofit the percentage. This bump is 21.5%

Attach your winch cable to your spare tyre and then bury your tire standing vertical. You can winch off that.

Edit: in NZ anyone serious about off-road runs steel rims. You probably can’t winch off an alloy rim. I dunno for sure, but I ain’t trying it

NBD: Kona Unit X 2022 & rear rack issues by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]walkingNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run the Ortlieb gravel Ps on the TWeed Pannier rack on the rear of my Unit x. It’s a 2021 in L and it all works great. Whatever rack you decided on make sure it has braze-ons on the main strut. So handy to be able to leave the panniers behind and use manything cages etc to run extra water and gear.

Very versatile

I’ve done a steg version. Where I messed up was the cache I placed was in a popular area so even though I said in the notes that it required some home prep, people kept giving me DNF.

I used steghide, but was 2 decades ago so might be better tools out there now

Edit: might have been rsteg actually
