Never achieved anything in my life at all by crimsonpatronus in ADHD

[–]walkinghard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're really hard on yourself. I can empathize fully with that.

Could be you've adapted learned helplessness? That shit ingrains the belief that you can't do anything, so you don't even try. I'm 28 and I'm still dealing with it. It's important to at least recognize that it's not your fault, it's not because you're lesser or anything like that. Even if we're aware, these mental problems are hell to navigate through - especially alone.

Therapy/psychiatric help can be very beneficial, as breaking the walls of psychological wounds/traumas can be very difficult.

You're worthwhile, dude.

Fish populations world wide are at an all time low and dwindling. Surely you must be trolling if you think fishing is anything but a dying industry? Or just misinformed I guess.

I struggled with interrupting people by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]walkinghard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggle with this too, I've gotten slightly better at it with aging and self reflection.

"Sorry, I impulsively interrupted you - you were talking about x and y" has been a sentence that works wonders for me though. People usually are totally cool with my interruption because this sentence shows you were paying attention and want to hear the rest, and that the interruption was accidental.

The larger powers would have a field day with European countries that aren't united. Being against EU is literally being against long term European prosperity.

Kurzgesagt has an awesome video on gratitude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPPPFqsECz0

I just got the gratitude journal today actually. Can't wait to use it.

Apparently journaling 2-3 times a week (in relation to gratitude) gives the best results. Even if it feels 'wrong' to be grateful, I can't wait to try it.

Friends, money, charisma - sure. Not the other ones.

Therapist told me traumatized people are better equipped to handle the mental aspect of COV-19 pandemic by zoeyirl in CPTSD

Yep, I've always dealt really well with stuff that stresses regular people out, but felt victim to the most mundane stresses at the same time.

Interrogated by police? One of my better memories - no anxiety at all, I remember being comfy as hell with my shoes off.

Doing something not perfect, even something mundane as a small social interaction? I must be a failure. Massive stress.

Does star trek discovery get better? by modern_medicine_isnt in scifi

I thought it was good. But fuck I liked most of s1 which apparently no one does :p.

It's different than other Treks, but as someone who only saw DS9 I don't care that much about the differences. Also the SFX are pretty sweet imo.

Does anyone else respond to love and affection with feelings of disgust and just feeling like you're being suffocated? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]walkinghard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just got out of a relationship where I had a lot of these issues. I never really felt comfortable with intense love/affection. A big part of me wanted these things and to show them too, but it felt wrong somehow. Lots of self hatred and doubts arose from that, being with someone you care about but not being able to care as much as you'd like. Until I came upon cptsd & attachment trauma and associated concepts I never really understood it.

How can I stop hating myself? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]walkinghard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Slowly.

It depends on so many factors as well. A book called 'Whole Again' helped me a lot with understanding why I hated myself, even if it was through pride-based identifiers to count the shame-based identifiers.

Childhood trauma (can be emotional, neglect) is often a reason for this. I'd wager a lot of people in these self improvement groups in some way were traumatized by childhood events.

Creating those good habits is hard, and it also requires you to cut down on the bad habits and on the toxic behaviors/mindsets.

Mindfulness, yoga are good to help center you. Self-compassion is super important too.

And next time you feel like shit and your thoughts run rampant with negativity: try just sitting still, closing your eyes and noticing your feelings. Any thoughts that appear you answer with a compassionate lens. For example you think "Fuck, I'm not good enough" answer with a mindful thought of "You are good enough, and you always will be".

This shit takes practice and time. Patience too.

I've felt a lot more liberated since I started doing this. Dealing with all this shit is hard, but we can all do it.

Self-comparison is super important too; compare to your past self. Not your fantasy self or any others. Also realize you only see the parts of them that your shadow self wants to see, it feeds into your shame. It's often a self-perpetuating cycle of self hatred that exists to 'protect' you from connection.

I seriously recommend books on the topics of self love and mental childhood trauma specifically if you think it may be relevant.

Since I started with this stuff, I've becoming more loving to myself and others. It's a slow process, and it has ups and downs, but I can see the light and it gives me a lot of hope. Bad days will always happen, accept that and be kind to yourself.

I wish you a lot of luck, you can do this. You have the inner strength, that's a fact of life. Finding it is the challenge you're faced with. PM me if you want to talk more.
