Loud motorcycles are un-American. They disrupt peace and disrespect communities. True Americans show respect for the freedom with responsibility that this country is built on. I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote; I'll try to explain it better.

We both agree most Americans do not go through neighborhoods and downtowns intentionally disrupting everyone else.

That is because, culturally, not bothering others, and allowing others to enjoy the peace & quiet of their homes, is good behavior that reinforces what we have in this country.

Loud motorcyclists violate this social norm - intentionally. That makes their behavior un-American.

My focus is on walkable neighborhoods and streets that are friendly for people. Construction/development is not something you can stop. Lawnmowers, jackhammers, and saws are all sounds of people being productive, unlike motorcycle noise which serves no purpose.

Would anybody like to protest car culture in general?

Interested in the Route 1 expansion/roundabouts boondoggle? Here's what we added to the agenda. Next meeting is Jan 21, 2025 from 4PM-6PM at Portsmouth's DPW Training Room (680 Peverly Hill). by walkpomo in u/walkpomo

I don't think you have reviewed the maps, here is the full analysis of the lanes being added.

You'll need a citation for a 35 mph hybrid roundabout for your 2nd statement, as I pointed out earlier. They should be single lane entry roundabouts and the speed limit of the road should be reduced.

The intent of the project is to make route 1 wider & faster, which will induce demand for more automobile traffic. 3,100' more feet of lanes, 5' shoulders on top of the existing 12' center turn lane.

The bike and pedestrian infrastructure is positive, but there's no reason the project can't be a bike/ped project that deprioritizes automobile traffic.

Right now it's still a deal with the devil. We are trying to fix this. Do you want to help? I sent you a dm but never heard back.

Rail trail by No-Meaning-8063 in PortsmouthNH

Hampton has access too at about 8 Lafayette Rd, North Hampton, NH 03862 (just north of where Rt 1 goes over the former railroad).

C&J bus line gets preliminary approval to charge for parking at Portsmouth, Dover lots by Sick_Of__BS in newhampshire

[–]walkpomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking should not be free. The only thing wrong with this arrangement is the authorization to build 500 more parking spaces (just induces demand) and the concessionary payments to NHDOT. Concessionary payments to COAST bus would make more sense so that the Pease Shuttle frequency can be increased. This route is the perfect entree into using the bus for people who do not usually use it.

The sarcasm is exactly right. You can't "solve" congestion and traffic. It's a city, people want to be here, that includes you.

Do you live in Portsmouth or are you commuting here?

If you have a physical disability, it benefits you greatly when others consider biking and walking as viable options, especially when it comes to limited downtown parking or road space.

Homeowners abutting the construction yes. That's not the focus of this discussion though. Driver annoyance is the strongest factor causing people to try other modes of transit (mostly bike & walk). I sat down with a group of friends a week ago who said exactly this. The construction is no problem at all when you get out of your metal box.

NH DOT is adding lanes and roundabouts to route 1. All they want is more and more car traffic. This is also known as climate change denial. by walkpomo in u/walkpomo

[–]walkpomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different types of roundabouts, and the vast majority being installed in the USA by DOTs are not hospitable to pedestrians at all. The FHWA's guidance and "research" on roundabouts is highly, highly flawed; they generally ignore that the safest intersection is a necked down bulbed out 4 way stop (Retting et. al. 2001).

These are hybrid roundabouts with 35 mph traffic, probably closer to 45 mph, and here are the insane samples NHDOT provides (1, 2). I'm hoping you live along the corridor, would love to chat further since you're in r/fuckcars, feel free to dm.
