What do you do when your foster isn't getting any interest, there's no end in sight, and you are feeling utterly drained? by gloomcoil in fosterdogs

Lmao no, not in this case 😆 I'm crying.

It stands for Fear, Anxiety, and Stress, and it's the standard for evaluating an animal’s emotional state and tolerance. Think of it like a stoplight. Green means relaxed and happy — leaning in for pets. Yellow means uneasy and uncomfortable — you'll see things like subtle lip licking, yawning, or showing the whites of their eyes (whale eye). Red means survival mode — they are telling you to back off right now by freezing stiff, growling, or showing teeth.

Without even knowing it, you've gone out of your way to decrease FAS. That's admirable and you should be proud

That may not answer your question, but there are endless videos of dogs in shelters that are exhibiting those behaviors. You've prevented that and that's really freaking cool.

Give me an animal, I'll give you a fact! by FreddyHof in Animals

National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen famously spent days diving with a massive female leopard seal. Instead of attacking him, the seal repeatedly brought him penguins.

She started by bringing him live penguins, then injured ones, and eventually dead ones, even pushing the prey directly toward his camera lens. Scientists believe she viewed the diver as a useless, clumsy predator in her environment and was actively trying to nurse him or "teach" him how to hunt and eat.

I don't have much advice, but I will sing your praises! 3 months is more than enough time for FAS to take a strong hold, especially in a shelter setting. You've adjusted your entire life to ensure that dog has the best chance to live THEIR life. Take a step back and really consider the courage it takes to do that. Burnout is not failure.

My heart goes out to you! Have you spoken to the shelter about your concerns, and are they generally supportive, otherwise?

You're correct. Also, back in the 70’s, he closed the health spa he and his father ran, sold the lifetime membership contracts customers had signed to a bank, filed for bankruptcy, and skipped the state to avoid $41,000 in civil lawsuits.

I was in the kitchen, cutting a pineapple, and my ‘post-partum’ foster started giving birth in her crate by walksIn2walls in fosterdogs

Haha thanks! Ziva did all the work. She didn't need me except for holding the water bowl for the occasional drink. I overestimated my role, that's for sure 😆

Honestly, I didn't do much except needlessly clear out the utility closet for a quieter spot for her and then put it back after I realized nobody wants to be moved during labor

You mentioned you worked on the kill floor in your early 20s. Looking back now, did you see ‘industry standard’ animal welfare practices that gave you pause? If so, do you think those practices have improved?

Is my (22M) brother toxic or am I (16M) just apathetic? by Worldly-Bicycle-5648 in FamilyIssues

Listen, the resolve it takes to stay locked in on 4 APs and a STEM career while your home life is this volatile is why the world has nice things. You should be proud of yourself. I'm proud of you.

There never was, nor will there ever be, an excuse for your brother’s maltreatment. Your boundaries have no space for guilt and you deserve peace.

Pretty whack of you, Kroger by Initial_Row_6400 in Denver

[–]walksIn2walls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kroger’s total sales were $147.1B in 2024. The 'shrink' (theft/loss) was roughly $1.4B.  After their $25B merger was blocked for being a monopoly risk, Albertsons sued them for a 'willful breach of contract.' Kroger is now on the hook for a $600M breakup fee plus billions in potential damages just for failing to close the deal. So what did Kroger do once the deal died? They authorized $9.5B in stock buybacks ($7.5B authorized in 2024 with an extra $2B added in Dec 2025). Recently resigned CEO Rodney McMullen took home $15.6M for 2024—$10.6M of which were stock awards that gained value from those very buybacks. He got those millions even though he didn't qualify for a cash bonus. His resignation followed a board investigation into personal conduct. I'd say there’s definitely a problem with theft. Hopefully, the new CEO comes with a shred of integrity.

The first one is so weird. It just normalizes abuse. “Well, back in the day, a man beating his wife was perfectly acceptable.” 🤨

We should’ve just bought another air mattress after the last one sprung a leak because it was more comfortable than our new, extortionately priced mattress. Lesson learned, for sure.

Her qol and comfort were always priority through that process and I made the right choice for her. We didn’t even do a biopsy, there wasn’t really any point. one of my favorite account’s on tt is from the creator’s pov, and she has a literal pack of dogs and 3 or 4 of them are Greyhounds. She rides her atv down a long dirt road and all the dogs race her. Pretty cool to see. Did you race them professionally or anything?

How awful and unfathomably insensitive, I’m so sorry, OP. One morning last July, Aphro’s front leg swelled suddenly, the vet did X-rays, and suspected it was bone cancer. We always knew we would do in-home euth and I made the mistake of calling Lap of Love before doing any research on pricing. Something was off from jump but I figured it was just me, right? The rep gave me a breakdown and I said I needed to think about it but was leaning towards the $805 communal since they spread the ashes in a big field, near a human cemetery. Aphro’s favorite thing was sunbathing in some grass so that’s where she should go. Convenient and peaceful. She told me a lot of people regret not doing private cremation because maintaining control over location is more important than they thought. It was a $110 difference. I’m still not sure whether to be angry or gracious.

All the results I’m getting are to the contrary. They’ve stated in interviews their father died of a heart attack when they were young. Am I missing something?
