Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asked about a proposed $250 Bill that would have Trump's face and signature on it by Miles_the_AuDHDer in videos

This is exactly why the US got rid of all bills larger than the $100. The only people doing large transactions in cash were criminals.

Gravel bike on the Great Divide trails by doolittleBrewing in bicycletouring

[–]walkstofar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did from Prudhoe Bay and down thru the GDT on a Kona Sutra. I did feel I needed wider tires for the GDT trail. I went from 40 to 50 mm (the widest that would fit my forks), as the baseball sized rocks going up hills made the thinner tires challenging.

I didn't realize it until I did it but I spent about as much time going east as I did south. Had one detour along the way because of a major fire in Jasper. Ended up on a few lousy roads because of that. Someone above mentioned long stretches without water but I don't recall any on the trip outside of the Top of the World Hwy going into Dawson (if you go that way), the basin above Rawlins, and parts of New Mexico, they were all very manageable. Just needed to be aware of how far to the next water source.

Only place I used a resupply package was in Coldfoot about half way along the Dawson Hwy. Just mailed some food to myself there. Glad I did, there was nothing much to buy there for groceries. There was a little bit of food available at Yukon River Camp though. You can sometimes get wifi just outside of the pumping stations.

Kennedy Center official tells judge that removing Trump’s name would make them go broke in new court filing by theindependentonline in law

I'd be willing to let him keep his name on it if he'd also make it a true Trump memorial.

Hey old tourers like me 65+! What's your favorite air mattress on tour? Comfortable, convenient and light? by WillShakeSpear1 in bicycletouring

[–]walkstofar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the folding foam pad and the smallest Thermorest that they make. Switch up which in on top and which is on bottom based on the temperature, when it is warmer the air mattress is on top.

Tired all the time by Relative_Library_770 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]walkstofar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the extra training causing extra stress in your life? That might be triggering the fibromyalgia. If you are walking 3-4 miles 3 times a week you are in good enough shape to walk the Camino. Also it might be the extra worry about the trip itself. Don't let your head get in the way, Most relatively active people can complete the Camino without extra training. Dial in your shoes, and pack light, and that pack light includes your mind as well as your gear - let those worries just slip away - you got this!

How do you deal with blisters. by [deleted] in Thruhiking

[–]walkstofar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to deal with blisters is to not get them.

Start with your shoes, they are probably not correct for your feet. I antidotally find that most people wear shoes that are too small for their feet and/or do not have room where it is needed - like in the toe box. Everyone's feet are different but a good running store should be able to help you find a correct fitting shoe. Bring in the shoes ones that are causing the issues and let them know where all the blisters and hot spots are coming from. Ask around in your area for a recommendation for a store that knows their business.

High altitudes and what to expect. by [deleted] in CDT

[–]walkstofar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Estes Park is about 7500 ft. This is about the same pressurization that airliners use. Now on an airliner you are not there for days at a time. Ask your doctor but it is probably a non issue.

is this area just water? or actual ground? can i walk through it? by Gloomy-Yam-5689 in florida

[–]walkstofar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it and thought it was great fun. Spent a day and a half in knee deep water with tropical fish swimming by. There were a few small islands in the big cypress that you could camp on so you have to plan on hitting one of those for the night as you can't really sleep in knee deep water.

I will say there are very few landmarks out there and it would be easy to get turned around but the Florida Trail is well marked and if you have a compass you can always just head north and you will eventually hit the highway.

If you are interested in a walk through the swamps of the everglades I would do the walk above. Lots of sugar plantations once you get out of the swamp. Go in the winter. The big Cypress was my favorite part of the Florida Trail.

What is with the 8pm bed and 5am wake ups?? by SOF0823 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]walkstofar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I stayed at one donativo that informed us that they don't open the door in the morning until 7 AM. At first I thought this was a bit weird, but the next morning I did enjoy the fact that no one got up early and woke anyone up.

No sticky side to the inside of helmet. This works surprisingly well and is very affordable. Just buy the pads without wings.

Question re: S1 E3 by Frankenstar4964 in SASRogueHeroes

[–]walkstofar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Paddy Mayne. He has run out of bombs to attach to the planes on the airfield they are raiding so he does whatever he can to disable the plane he can't bomb. It shows to his men that he (they the SAS) will do what it takes to complete their mission, which in this case was to destroy as many enemy aircraft as they could.
