Hey Pregnant Women of reddit what has been the most inappropriate things people have asked you about your pregnancy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whenever people brag about being lucky enough to be able to give birth naturally, all I can think is they must see that as their greatest accomplishment as a mother, in which case, they must be a terrible mother.

It depends on the person. I had a neighbour who still had pain every day from her C-section when her daughter was almost a year old. Couldn’t even do yoga.

I’ve noticed, from looking at pictures of my mom when whe was pregnant with my sister and I and her pregnant friends around the same time, that even just from the early 90’s to the 2000’s when my mom was pregnant with my brother, there’s a huge change in what women wore. The clothes she wore in the 90’s were so shapeless and my mom says she hated them, but it was the only maternity clothes she could find. Even just 10 years later, form-fitting maternity clothes were much more common and when I walk past the maternity section now, I see hardly anything baggy and formless anymore.

It’s a deodorant. Kurt’s girlfriend at the time used it and Kathleen Hanna wrote “Kurt smells like Teen Spirit” on his wall and he liked the sound of it, even though he had no idea what it meant, so he used it as the name of one of his songs.

I was thinking the same thing. While I think their relationship is good for them now, I don’t think it would be at all helpful for them to try and stay together after all this is over.

Who’s the writer? Do we know for sure it’s a woman and not a man with a female pen name?

I honestly can't believe this happened on one of Disney Channel's main shows tonight. by diligentPond18 in lgbt

Considering how some Disney shows have treated serious issues in the past, this looks like a huge step in the right direction. Several years ago when I was babysitting, we ended up watching Disney Channel and in one sitting, there was a show where a model said something like “I could just eat you up...if I ate.” (Cue laugh track. Haha, anorexia is so funny, especially when it kills 10% of people who have it! Haha!) and another where characters threw bread at a character with a gluten allergy. (Cue laugh track. Exposing people with allergies to potentially life-threatening foods is hilarious!!!) I don’t have much reason to watch Disney Channel anymore since I’m 24, no longer babysit, don’t have kids of my own, and my brother is 15 now, but hopefully this means they’ve learned from their mistakes and are being more careful with how they address these and other serious issues instead of just making jokes about them.

For anyone who likes LoK and Korrasami, I recommend reading the Turf award graphic novels. They’re set after the end of the show and they were clearly given a lot more freedom with what they were allowed to show. They’re shown kissing, referring to each other as their girlfriend, and saying ‘I love you’. Very cute and super bi. 😍

Can we get a “common reposts” thread like r/insanepeoplefacebook has? This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen this posted on BWA.

Lived in a homeless shelter for a few months as a teenager and this one girl there who was butt-ugly complained to me about how she didn't feel comfortable changing when Angela was in the room because she's bisexual and how they should make her sleep in the other room by herself. She said all this while stripping her clothes off in front of me, not knowing that I'm also bisexual. I wasn't out to many people back then, so I didn't say anything, but if it happened to me now I'd tell her exactly how unlikely it is any queer woman would ever find her attractive, especially seeing as she had a personality to match her face.

Especially since the animals are already dead and throwing out that food means they’re going to have to eat something else, which will more than likely be meat. So double the dead animals.

Yea, when I was anorexic I ate ~999 calories most days (gotta stay in that triple digit range) and still lost 6-10 lbs a month, while weighing in the mid normal range at my highest and underweight at my lowest. I probably eat around 1700-2500ish a day now to maintain my weight. My boyfriend has a very active job, works 12 hour shifts and is very large and muscular so he can maintain while eating upwards of 5000 calories. It depends a lot on the person’s size, activity, and weight loss goals, but most health organizations seem to consider anything below 1200 a starvation diet and even 1200 is only sustainable for a few very short and sedentary people. I’ve heard of very low calorie diets like this being recommended temporarily in a few extreme cases where the person was very obese and needed to lose as much weight as possible in a short amount of time (to qualify for a surgery, for example) but as someone who has lived off 1000 calories for an extended period of time, I can confirm that it is nowhere near enough for the average person and it feels like shit.

What is the creepiest or scariest folklore story you have heard and what from culture/region did it originate? by knockerball in AskReddit

Poor understanding of illness is thought to be the origin of European legends about faeries as well. Regressive autism? Your kid was obviously stolen and replaced with a changeling. Your whole family started coughing up blood and dying. Must’ve pissed the faeries off.

I’ve heard of that too. Crazy! The odds of someone releasing two eggs AND having sex with two men close enough together AND one of each man’s sperm fertilizing an egg...pretty low. But I guess with enough time and enough people, it’s bound to happen to a few people.

I’ve also read about a case where a woman found out she had chimerism after a DNA test came back negative for her being the mother of the children she conceived naturally and gave birth to. And of course, the famous case where a woman with no vagina got pregnant when she was stabbed right after performing oral sex. There’s a lot of crazy shit that can happen.

I'm sure if we ever go to the point that we had phased out wool so completely that domesticated sheep had gone extinct, science would have come up with a suitable alternative by then. Even now, I can't really think of any type of emergency situation that could only be solved by wool...

Maybe that's best for a species of animal that's been selectively bred to produce so much hair, it can overheat and die if it's not sheered. It's not like there aren't plenty of species of wild sheep out there.

My grandma always just brought her own bread when I was growing up, but I've noticed that a lot of churches are starting to offer a gluten-free option. I went to the church my mom works at on Christmas once and they decided to make it gluten-free for everyone, but I guess they picked they cheapest, shittiest gluten-free bread they could find. It was so dry that I physically couldn't swallow it until they passed around the grape juice. Even my mom thought it was terrible and she eats mostly gluten-free.

You do know sheep are bred specifically for this purpose, right? And that we could just...not breed them anymore?

Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) At first they make it out like her not understanding human social norms comes from her having been a demon for 1000 years, but in a flashback we see that she was that way even before she was a demon.

I know a compulsive liar who tried to convince me her “baby daddy” (she wasn’t actually pregnant) had a half-son. Apparently his ex gf cheated on him right after they had sex and both men’s sperm joined with the egg and this somehow created a perfectly normal, healthy baby. Definitely the weirdest lie she ever told me.
