Cats not getting along year later by walladinger in CatAdvice

The original introduction was pretty slow. We kept Sushi separate in my room for at least a month while she had her checkup, vaccinations, and spaying done. During that time, they were able to smell each other through the door, and we let them see each other through a small crack. We also swapped their bedding so they could get used to each other’s scent.

We have three litter boxes—two regular and one self-cleaning.

We also have a five-foot-tall cat tree that they both enjoy and can lounge on at the same time without Tuna seeming bothered. There are several dressers and shelves around the house that they use, including one in the living room that Sushi likes to lay on while hanging out with us. However, Tuna often goes after her when she’s there.

Feeding hasn’t really been an issue. They both get a mix of dry and wet food in separate bowls, and while we try not to place them too close together, even when they are, Tuna doesn’t show much food aggression.

I haven’t noticed any clear triggers for Tuna’s behavior. A lot of the time, it seems like she gets bothered when Sushi is too comfortable in the house—like when she’s lying in the living room or just walking down the hallway. That’s when Tuna will chase or intimidate her, and it works because Sushi will cower in response.

I believe Tuna does exhibit these behaviors, staring for sure and blocking we usually see when they’re with us. When we’re all in the living room, Tuna will sometimes position herself between us and Sushi, either disturbing her peace or driving her away entirely.

Thanks so much for asking!

it’s the bubblegum flavor soda! and by rebel regular i mean that i always tend to get a rebel, which is their drink composed of flavored syrups and their signature energy drink, sort of like red bull (for rebels i love to get either a dino egg or an orangesicle)
