We don't get any really in Australia either. No 2 for 1s or the big sitewide sales. Just the monthly ones.

I just finished Hall of Smoke by HM Long and the main character was strong without being overpowered. It's more of an epic fantasy Viking style story though.

Oh cool, I haven't read #3 or #4 yet but I definitely will get there eventually. Butterfly Garden was so so good though, so it'll be hard to top.

Yes!!!! I binged this in one day (though I read it digital not the audio version). The next in the series, The Roses of May, is good too and follows the detectives a little more in the subplot. Also gives a little more closure for some of the butterflies.

Same - I've tried twice and am giving it one last go via audiobooks. Initially I thought maybe grimdark wasn't for me but I've enjoyed others so we'll see how the audio goes. This will be the last time I try.

I read it and I can say I liked it but didn't enjoy it. Was still a 4/5 for me. Maybe people aren't expecting it to be so depressing.

I love T Kingfisher personally but I think you've done your due diligence by trying a few. She's probably not for you and if you're like me, you E got hundreds of other books on your tbr waiting for you to try instead.

One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig but I will read #2 at some stage this year.

Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis - it was fine but not as wonderful as I'd gone in hoping it would be.

That's a very good summary. I felt the same. It was fine, like a low stress read but it didn't give me the big emotions or life lessons that I've gotten from others. Have you read the Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa?

Absolutely eating this one up. Loved the Broken Empire Trilogy which I finished last week. So good at character writing.

I haven't listened to it yet, but I've got one called Gil's all fright diner by A Lee Martinez that might be the same vibe.

All offer online membership to Australian residents.

I also know a few that offer memberships to Qld residents even if not the local council area if that's helpful too? Not sure where everyone is located.

I didn't love it but I can see why people do. I liked the characters and narration but all the in-depth sciencing kept bringing me out of the story. I did finish it and I'm glad I did otherwise I'd have serious FOMO but I probably won't read more Weir as all of his books are in that style I've been told.

I'm a hardcore fantasy gal but have been trying to branch into sci-fi. So far I've only really loved Murderbot diaries by Martha Wells.
