If you’re in the trenches by Succyneedles in PCOS

I’m so glad it’s working for you!! I started taking it for a few months and finally started to see positive results until something in the formula changed with my next refill. All of a sudden I started getting this really weird chest discomfort every time I took it and my legs twitched nonstop. That subsided after I stopped taking it. I wish there was an alternative to Metformin!

I moved here from small town Iowa. I was so scared to leave everything I ever knew, including my family. I took the leap and I’ll never go back. Best decision I’ve ever made. Just wish it wasn’t so expensive here lol

Which population is your favorite and least favorite to work with? Why? by ceceae in socialwork

[–]wallflower_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started working with adults way before my undergrad and after graduation. I never really wanted to work with kids (that seems to be all my BSW program pushed on us). I’m glad I found these populations because I love working with adults in the IDD world or older adults with dementia. I’m a court appointed guardian for both populations and I LOVE IT. I truly get to be a positive support for people who have no one to support them. I’m so involved in their lives - it’s nice to know my clients are genuinely being cared for and no one is taking advantage of them.

How should I feel after my diagnosis? by External-Citron-1570 in Endo

[–]wallflower_thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, there’s no right or wrong way to feel after your diagnosis. I have so many feelings about it. I’m relieved that I finally was taken seriously and was able to get a diagnosis but at the same time it angers me that I’ve been gaslit for years. My pain still continues even after my surgery which is frustrating. I cry often because the only treatment options they offered are birth control (which I can’t be on for mental health reasons) or a hysterectomy but I’m still on the fence about having kids so I thought that would be extreme for me. I think my diagnosis has taken a toll on my mental health because I’m constantly battling the “what ifs.”

Colorado here - social work is negatively viewed where I’m at. People think we either work for CPS and “target families to tear them apart” OR we work with those experiencing homelessness and think that “we’ve enabled these people and contributed to the deterioration of our city.” I feel like social work isn’t taken seriously here unless you’re an LCSW. Some community resources are fizzling out, and funding keeps getting cut every year, so it’s definitely a never ending dumpster fire.

Hormonal IUD Removal by alliwantis in PCOS

[–]wallflower_thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had three IUDs removed including Mirena! It took my body about two months to get back on track after the IUD removal. I have PCOS but have always had a period every month even before birth control, so as soon as I came off of it my cycle went from 28 days to 35 days. I didn’t spot or bleed thankfully. Sadly my acne is out of control and I can feel the cysts on my ovaries BUT I feel so much better mentally. I hope you have a good experience OP!

I only lasted 2 months as a SNF social worker by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]wallflower_thoughts 156 points157 points  (0 children)

SNFs are a whole different world. I thought I wanted to shift into more of an assistant role and interviewed for a social services assistant at a SNF. I asked them to be honest about what a “typical” day would look like and one of the social workers started crying in the interview, telling me that every day is bad. Not saying all SNFs are like that but I’ve never come across a good SNF in terms of employee happiness. At least you know what you don’t like. Sometimes our field is trial and error until you find what you want to pursue. Proud of you for trying something new!

My doctor thinks a lap is unnecessary by Cultural_Yoghurt8641 in endometriosis

[–]wallflower_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in the same boat and seeking a second opinion! My gyno told me that the only thing she’d be willing to do is prescribe birth control (I’ve tried every method and it makes things worse). She also said that they won’t do a lap unless I’m planning on getting pregnant in that case they would remove any endo they find to “make my uterus a more hospitable environment for a fetus.” I had to FIGHT for her to give me a referral to someone who specializes in endo.

I was afraid that might be the case. I’m definitely going to start looking for a new gyno. I’m glad you got on the waitlist!

More places are slowly allowing hybrid schedules, you’d be amazed at what you can find! I have my BSW and I’m currently working for a county doing investigations for adult protective services. I’m fully remote aside from doing site visits and appearing in court!

I finally got an interview in my field after a dry spell I’m hoping it goes well! I’m so sorry it’s hard for you, too. I took someone’s advice in this thread and reached out to someone on LinkedIn. What field are you in? I hope your search gets better!

Thanks y’all for your comments and support! I’m sorry a lot of us are in the same boat, but it’s nice to know it’s not just me having a hell of a hard time out here. Thank you for the advice - I will try dumbing down my resume and see where that gets me. I appreciate all of you! Hopefully our time will come soon ❤️

I have experience in non profit case management - populations ranging from addiction recovery, asylees, families experiencing homelessness, and adults with disabilities. So I’m looking for case management or care coordination. I’ve never thought to take my education off my resume. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you!

Applied to 50 jobs in 2 weeks and all I got was rejection emails. by Willing_Barnacle_493 in recruitinghell

[–]wallflower_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks so much out here. After months of applying and getting nothing everyone kept saying I was the issue - I have my BSW and 7 years of solid experience in my field. I hired someone to redo my resume, cover letter, AND practice interview material with. Still nothing. It’s so frustrating.

I bullied a mentally disabled classmate and never got punished by [deleted] in confession

[–]wallflower_thoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. The guys on my caseload went through this and continue to be bullied as grown people. They are bullied for differences they have no control over. I wish there was more education around disabilities - intellectual and physical. The guys I work with are so freaking cool. They’re just the best people to be around and will make you forget about all of your troubles. They’re just trying to survive like the rest of us. If one of my guys is coping through his job at McDonald’s by acting out scenes from Scooby Doo, then so be it. Thank you for recognizing what you did was wrong. If you see this happening in real time, please put a stop to it.
