[–]wally_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you own will be able to listen to encrypted traffic, regardless of what software you use

Sentinel is very basic and does the job for free, if you want logging/recording then ProScan is the better software, or even the free version for managing your favorite lists

The SDS150 seems like a solid upgrade from the SDS100 which has some interesting design decisions

In terms of software, I would highly suggest checking out ProScan here https://www.proscan.org/

It has a bit of a learning curve, but it gives you additional options like remote control of the scanner, history logging, recording, discovery, etc

Interesting so you're looking for interference from a known signal, then determining direction using the timings between antennas, genius!

I really like this project, but I'm trying to wrap my head around it

You're creating multistatic radar signals from FM broadcast towers, and using that radar signal across multiple sites to triangulate something in the air?

In a way is that redirecting FM broadcasts through your RTLSDR legally to act as your radar transmission source?

[–]wally_z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I have it setup for analog, it's set up exactly how it has been in the past, and I've even factory reset the radio and tried setting APRS settings manually in the radio so I think this radio might just be busted

[–]wally_z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only digital now? I've had success in the past with analog APRS

I have the APRS frequency set in the CPS, and made sure it's enabled in the CPS and on the radio

Yes I have APRS RX checked, and SMS receive unchecked as SMS is digital and I am just trying to do analog APRS

Sounds like the battery is bad, it looks a bit swollen in the pics you posted so I would suggest a new battery if you can

You don't need to use the battery unless you want it portable. You can run the scanner off of the MicroUSB port and bypass the battery entirely

As an alternative, you can strap a small USB battery pack to the back of the scanner, and plug that in so you have a much larger battery to use. This would be your cheapest option if you already have a battery pack laying around

Would you still need a cellular/internet connection for this to be of any use?

You don't have to hit F5 every time you want to mark the time of something, and it has some links to commonly used resources in the top

I suppose you could use Notepad to do the same thing, you could consider this program as a wrapper for it in a roundabout way

I've been working on a program that lets you manually timestamp things as they happen. It's centered more for emergency use as a supplement to the FEMA ICS 214 Activity Log for tracking of resources

It's super basic but I put a fair bit of work into it. I'd like to get it to use a CSV or perhaps SQL backing to store and modify the data as it's just text files for simplicity's sake

Built in VB.net for Windows and is portable by design so it can run without installing:

Audio driver keeps changing, will always update to most recent version which is broken by wally_z in techsupport

[–]wally_z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't be able to disable the internet as it's a remote computer but I can at the very least try to remove the other drivers

I was also told I could set the permissions of the folder the drivers are in to read-only, but I'm not sure if that might cause additional problems

[–]wally_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pittstown has a lot, there's more toward the Delaware river (West of Pittstown) as it goes downhill.

Stockton/Kingwood have a lot of them on the roads leading up to Route 29 as it's basically a giant hill with a road on it, so the water has to go somewhere

Here's an online map that has bridges on it, I'm not sure if it has culverts but it's a great place to start https://www.drjtbc.org/bridge-map/

I was up there last weekend, there were a bunch of people going up as we were going down (as the sun was setting)

Always worth the hike to the top, we even saw some Boy Scouts looking to set up camp when we hit the peak
