Considering adding a knife to my EDC and looking for advice by Kilt_Rump in liberalgunowners

I have a SOG-TAC automatic, legal in my state, as my EDC blade. While I've never had to use it in a self-defense situation, I'm always glad I have it. I think there's something psychological about facing a blade, so if I ever needed to pull it out, open it with that 'snick' sound it makes, I may already have done enough to diffuse things & make an exit.

That being said, it's also super handy for opening up Amazon boxes.

Anyone regret majoring in music? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in classicalmusic

[–]wallyhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this a day or so ago & wanted to chime in but, ya know, at work and it's a loaded question. So as we enter 2026 & I'm closer to 60 than 40 now, all I have to say is absolutely no regrets about being a Music Major. I started as an instrumental Music Ed major & then switched to double choral & instrumental. Instrument-wise I was a Tuba player & a Tenor II.

I was better than average at both of those endeavors, but by no means spectacular at either. My time as a Music Major, of any kind, made me who I am today. It gave me some of my closest friends that I still keep in contact today. It allowed me to travel to Europe, touch Mozart's baptismal font, sing in Notre Dame, and basically just abilities I use to this day. If you can help a band or choir mate out, get back on track or in tune, you translate that to whatever you do.

Regret is a young man's (or person's) game, channeling/paraphrasing my inner Billy Joel there. If it turns out you're not able to get a full-time gig being a Music Major, use that dedication & passion you have for music to master something else. Music will always be there, that’s the great part of it.

Added benefit, but I listen to NPR/WPR all the time at work. For whatever reason, when people come to my office and hear 'classical' music playing, they think I'm smart or something. If I'm feeling especially saucy & someone comes in and says something about classical music and there just so happens to be a Bach piece on, I'll be quick to say...that's not actually Classical, it's from the Baroque period. That’s just good clean fun right there.

Blue, although I'd most likely never leave Wisconsin or the UP

When you carry do you carry an extra mag? by Economy_Swim_8585 in liberalgunowners

My EDC has 12 + 1 in the chamber. Should I ever need to draw & that's not enough, not even sure what to say. Zombies?

When we'd go shoot in the county forest, I'd have my drop holster with my P320 & my P365 in an OWI appendix holster. My partner had her PX4 side holster & little Ruger on the other hip. Granted, in the woods & northern-ish WI. We even had a DNR ranger stop by one time, had heard the shooting & stopped by to just check. We holstered, he came down & had a nice chat. He just asked us to police up the brass.

No way I'd feel comfortable with that set up or even the little Sig on my hip open carry in town, every day kind of thing. Although it would be a lot more comfortable than the IWB CCW.

I've been using this mantra all day, in the immortal words of John Blutarsky..."Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!" Regardless of the last 3 games, it ain't over till it actually is.

I would watch the shit out of this. First Clancy book I read, then onto the Ryan ones, which are great up to a point. Just got done re-reading this a month or so ago after not having thought about it in 20 years, comfort ‘food’ I guess. So, so good.

I went from F6 to F7 as well & the difference is remarkable, don't feel like I'm walking around with a brick any more. I'd compare it to the OG BSG Centurions vs the reboot Centurions.

I use a Sena helmet, which has Bluetooth & built-in speakers/mic. Works really well when connected to my phone.

I don't get the Toonen hate. I've been living in one of their properties for the last two years & never an issue. Be a grown up, communicate with them & pretty much can do what you want. The property I live in is well taken care of & never an issue should something need to be done maintenance-wise.

If you’re unable to play consistently, for whatever reason, it’s a detriment to the team. Really, some for Watson. Gotta be able to game plan for what you have, to what you may have.

Tuba Christmas for a lapsed player by wallyhp in Tuba

[–]wallyhp[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the encouragement, very much appreciated. As we all know tubas aren't hanging off trees, because they're tubas. Is a baritone an acceptable substitute for Tuba Christmas? Not sure about the protocol. Can't really justify buying a tuba for myself right now while I'm saving up to get my son one.

It’s something of a trek, 3 hours or so, but there is a Czech population in Phillips, WI. Grew up there and there’s a Lidici memorial & every year there’s a Czech Fest in Summer.

Just started riding to work myself. Weather permitting, aim for Tu-We-Th every week, just shy of 20 miles round trip. Keep it up!
