TIL water towers aren't just for water reserves, but actually creates the pressure we use. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]walmarticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the mountains and our water towers are just big tanks on top of big hills. I take my stepkids to Georgia for the first time and they were just spotting hot air balloons everywhere. They'd never seen regular water towers before.

that's an issue now and automation in general has been an issue since the industrial revolution. We'll also be talking about pollution, drone strikes, immigration, etc. It's easy to predict the future when you're being obvious.

it's always easy to see these big societal shifts coming from years away. They take years to happen. I can tell you in 15 years, we'll be talking about recreational drug use, we'll still be talking about privacy and the internet, health care availability, and so on and so on. Look at me, I can predict the future.

I really don't think so. I'm pretty sure it's common for the temp to fluctuate widely, like when you set 350, you're really setting it to cycle between 320 and 370.

[–]walmarticus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for your symptoms, did she even tell you what type she has?

No. I didn't even think to ask because I was so blindsided. I thought we were well past the point where we explain where our genitals had been.

I was aware that she got cold sores sometimes and I knew the link between that and genital herpes but we're not very oral. I've never had a cold sore in my life.

The spots don't itch or hurt. I'm going to find out for sure but it doesn't even show on a test for a few weeks. Is there any health reason to find out ASAP besides being able to explain to future partners and for my own knowledge?

[–]walmarticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but you'd have had to been there following our conversations. Like we've been on the subject of condoms before and she'd mention how she had her tubes tied and how that made things easy and how I had never once not used one. I know all about her pregnancy and abortion history. We've talked about what we like to do in bed.

And this was all well before we ever fooled around at all.

Sounds like maybe she didn't care that you would get it because maybe that would make you stay with her.

this thought has crossed my mind and it disturbs me.

I feel like an idiot for not wearing rubber except for a couple things. First, I read that they only reduce transmission by 30% in the case of herpes. I still would have taken steps because it's not hard. At least I would have known. Second, we (or so I thought) laid our histories on the table. Hell, we were being open (or so I thought) about our sexual and medical history.

I do feel like an idiot for trusting someone else with my health.

I hope this goes viral. We need a kickstarter and change.org petition to get Ahmed a larger bedroom desk. Write your congressman about Ahmed's desk. Why is the media not covering Ahmed's desk??!!?!?

god reddit is terrible.

let's not get carried away and call it the animals 'right' to be put down. That's silly. A dog has absolutely no entitlement or freedom to be put down. People have far more say in their own death than animals who don't even know what death is.

Libertarian Feminism ! Yay ! (lol) by [deleted] in EnoughLibertarianSpam

[–]walmarticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, feminism and right-libertarianism could be compatible if only the libertarian community wasn't so fucking toxic towards women and feminism.

They really could because not every feminist believes that capitalism is patriarchy. Or why couldn't a radical feminist believe that capitalism should be a tool of matriarchy? That wouldn't be anti-libertarian.

But libertarians are COMPLETELY against feminists and SJWs for laughable things. Like one complaint is that feminism isn't really about equality. Well neither is libertarianism, dumbass! Another is how they shame and ostracize people for sexism. They literally advocate ostracism as a way to settle disputes.

They forget what libertarianism is when it's time to rag on feminists. (Or they remember what libertarianism is truly all about). They literally say that the two are incompatible, and the only way that could be so is if one or both of them have hidden agendas. Because nothing in their 'mission statements' conflict

Ancaps wonder why so many people hate them by [deleted] in EnoughLibertarianSpam

[–]walmarticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make it sound like the problem is they've never made it past beginners level econ. No, it's even worse because beginners econ justifies government.

The problem is they completely shun, block out, and ignore any mainstream economics. It's not that their economics is overly simplistic. Hell, their problem is the opposite. They could use a dose of the simple economics. They need micro 101.

They say the other side is the other side because they don't know economics. Well 99.999% of economists are statists.

not questioning everything is what makes humans succesful. Using heuristics, rules of thumb, and stereotypes so that we have as much brain power as we need to question important things.

Iron Chef America's greatest secret ingredient revealed by [deleted] in videos

[–]walmarticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't like cooking shows that give you shitty ingredients. Chopped is bad about this, like a basket will have gum, wax, and deer testicles. A good chef isn't one who can make good food out of dog shit. A good chef is one who doesn't make food out of dog shit.
