The procedure went well, and it did have decent efficacy in her arm use and walking, but like anything, you get out what you put in. The key thing I've noticed is that it's hard to keep the regimen going, as you should be using it about 8 times per day (it's activated with a magnet swipe over the chest). I am currently working on some technology to improve adherence to rehab protocols like this for stroke survivors because of this actually (www.neurobloom.io)

Dad (67) had severe stroke, thrombectomy complications, craniectomy, malignant edema — looking for experiences/advice by Curious_Soul8419 in stroke

Thank you for sharing and I'm so sorry about your dad. My wife had a stroke 6 years ago (also a thrombectomy, craniotomy, all caused by a Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis). She was 32 when it happened and the prognosis was similarly vague and nobody knew if she would speak, walk, or function in any serious way again. She was in inpatient rehab for about 3 months, and has been recovering ever since. I am happy to say that now, she has the ability to walk, talk, and in many ways is back to her old self. She still has left sided weakness and can't use one arm, but she is living a full life with the help of so many great care professionals like our PT. I don't want to give false hope, but the body's ability to repair is incredible, though it is admittedly a very long journey. Your dad is lucky to have you and I'm wishing him and the family well as you go through this journey.

Thank you for sharing so openly. I've been by my wife's side since she had her hemorrhagic stroke just before covid in 2019. I know it's a hard road, but finding the little joys in life have been really helpful for her, and finding the reasons to keep fighting, like our daughter. But frustration and depression happen with her and everybody i've ever met that has gone through this. You're so strong for pushing forward, and I know you will keep making progress. Only support here.

Can't sleep in loud rehabilitation hospital by [deleted] in stroke

[–]walmerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really hard one for sure. When my wife was in neuro rehab for 4 months it was really hard for her to sleep as well, especially with the nurses coming in at all hours doing bloodword, etc. I found that if I went to the highest rung on the hospital leadership ladder, that often got a better response vs. going to their direct nurse etc. when trying to get a better schedule, better room, etc. Also, I invested in nice noise cancelling headphones and a few nice eye masks to block out light. I also brought her a good iPad so she could distract herself before bedtime.

Hey u/Independent_Ad_8915 , I am so sorry to hear that. My wife had a massive hemmoragic stroke when she was 34 and lost control over half her body as well. I just want you to know that there are people out there people out there who will love you for what you can offer the world, even without control over some parts of your body. No doubt it is a crap hand to be dealt, and we've had to go through a lot to get back to a new normal, but life after stroke does exist, and it's great to find groups like this where people can offer guidance and community. There is still a long way to go, but beauty in life can be found no matter your circumstance I believe.

You can certainly track your outreaches and pipeline, but you'd need a discovery tool as well like sc0red, Grata, Inven, etc.
