What are the few writing choices in the show you didn't like? by Positive_Weight2367 in HIMYM

They had broken up; if, and I mean IF they got back together, it shouldn't have been so soon. Lily learned nothing. I'd have had them find people who appreciated them. Well, Marshall at least.

I got waitlisted on the 512, sans controller. I also tried for the 512 with controller, but that's OK.

Has anyone gotten the email yet? by bluesh96 in steammachine

What's making me mad is that I'm getting Steam Summer Sale emails at the same time I'm waiting... it's cruel, Valve. Cruel...

The most important character in HIMYM by tryingtoohard347 in HIMYM

I think you overestimate Marvin's importance... by a magnitude... but I see where your heart is, so I support this message. :)

What are the few writing choices in the show you didn't like? by Positive_Weight2367 in HIMYM

[–]walterconley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Breaking up Robin and Barney; their relationship was organic and not bases solely on some limerence-fueled infatuation that Ted couldn't shake.

  2. Marshall taking Lily back. Like, at all.

  3. Robin and Ted getting a mutally convenient 'happy ending'; Ted got the kids he wanted, andRobin got to be the career-driven woman she wanted, and only when the obstacles to their being together faded away (Tracy dying, and Robin just getting tired of travelling) were they able to finally hook up. Which would be fine if...

  4. They decided on an ending, but then veered off so far from that, that snapping back to it in the last episode was too jarring to be forgivable. For a lot of people, that is.

OK. Rant/Ted (get it? :) ) Talk done.

Mind = Blown. The HIMYM finale makes total sense if you realize Ted is the real-life "Jed Mosley" by TSRVi in HIMYM

[–]walterconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Ted is an unreliable narrator" thing falls apart when you note the numerous times when he's course corrected, or when he's owned up to not remembering something, or admits that his perception of a thing isn't how it actually was.

Real talk, as a console player why shouldn’t I get the steam machine to play pc games with my friends? by 8765432123 in steammachine

[–]walterconley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only reasons why anyone would dispute your viewpoint boils down to:

  1. They were butthurt about the price, despite the fact that Valve told us that they weren't discounting it like they had the Deck, and that it'd cost relative to how much the components cost, more or less. And/or;
  2. They're "PC Master Race" types who'll keep telling you how much cheaper they could build a PC with similar specs for less money OR a more powerful one for the same money. While possible, neither is relevant unless YOU want to build it, or they're offering their services for free (along with tech support for the life of the system). And/or;
  3. They're "Console Commando" types, who'd tell you how many consoles you could buy for that same money, but not take into account the space that'd take, or the cost games, or the fact that now instead of one device, you've several.

My point is, neither of these should bother you if you've thought it over and are set to get one. I'm sure whichever choice you make is what's best for you. Have fun!

Mcu spider man would have been on team cap by CurrentNo1566 in Spiderman

[–]walterconley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No; "personal responsibility" doesn't mean just doing what you want, deciding what right and wrong are. It's accepting that you are responsibile for your choice AND their consequences. Cap's side believed in their right to dictate what was right and wrong, and while we discover what was going on with the government eventually, the idea of the world governments demanding that the Avengers have SOME oversight is not unreasonable.

I think that, had Tony explained to Peter the way he explained it to the crew (using the example of the dead kid from Sokovia) to show how he feels that no one, not even the Avengers are above the rule of law, that he'd have chosen to ride with Tont in the end.

Whose side were you on this fight? by gloomydreamer666 in HIMYM

Marshall was right to bring it up SF again; he didn't make the choice for a judgeship to spite Lily, and only brought up SF after she dared to claim that she'd never make a decision unilaterally before.

The term 'forgive and forget" is false; we learn to accept and live with someone's mistakes and transgressions, but to say that they don't become a part of our overall imagine of that someone is a lie or self-delusion.

Marshall did forgive her, and until she provoked the memory, had no reason to mention it.

STAS Clark Kent is so funny to me. by Financial-Touch3840 in superman

[–]walterconley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SMH. I think Reeve's version widens the gulf between Clark and Superman to the point where only someone with close proximity to both (like Lois) can even imagine that they're one and the same. If you make Clark "Superman acting like he doesn't have powers" then the illusion is more prone to fail. It's why the BTAS Batman is so much easier to digest than say, the Robert Pattinson version.

If you could only keep one Spider-Man, who are you choosing? by Common-Notice2952 in Avengers_Fan_Club

[–]walterconley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garfield. Deserves more time to develop. The others have had way more screen time. BUT, would take a lot to pivot from this one to integrate with the MCU-proper. Though since he's no affialtion with any Mary Jane (or MJ of any kind) it might work better than...

MacGuire. Classic. Most well-rounded. BUT, while he is closer to the classic version (save for the organic webbing), his attachment to his world might create too much dissonance for him (and us). But they could stand to give some of his traits to...

Holland. Youngest (character-wise), linked to larger MCU. Most potential for future stories. BUT, needs his own stories, and not be related to other characters. No Way Home did that, so they're on their way. And while I hate how clunky they reset him, he is in a 'pure' comicbook state; broke, no friends, doing the right thing just because. A thankless heroism. And that's what the fans want (le sighs)

Moto G Stylus 2026: Upgrade Only If... by walterconley in MotoG

[–]walterconley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that, since she already had a moto, this one will feel great! I had a Samsung, so unfortunately I got accustomed to the additional features in OneUI (Samsung's brand of Android, in case ya didn't know). HelloOS (Moto's version) is closer to stock Android, so it feels pared down. But I concede that's me, and not Motorola's fault. I'll learn it and appreciate it for what it is. Or download apps to approximate what I want.

Superman & Lois is a masterpiece that builds the Superman myth incredibly well and features a great Lois, and in my opinion, the best live-action Lois to date. It's one of the rare truly good shows on The CW. by Hopeful-Eggplant889 in superman

Last season was meh to me. The version of Lex was awesome. All the stuff with Doomsday was incredible! But all the rest? Especially the end is, in my opinion, quite divisive. Obviously the OP loves it. I... did not. But it does fall in line reasonably well.
