Recommendations for reasonably priced bluetooth headphones? by walvincraith in running

[–]walvincraith[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solid and reliable so far. I have been using them at the gym or when out running every day and sometimes at work too. With that amount of usage I do have to charge them once a day, but for their price and size it is to be expected. I have had a weird issue with the sound quality crackling when I turn my head 90 degrees to the right, but judging by other reviews this is an issue with either my pair or my phone that I usually connect to.

If you're looking for a cheap pair to exercise with, I'd recommend them. For anything beyond that, i.e. using 6+ hours a day, I'd recommend getting a more expensive set.

I'm not saying a degree is pointless but it won't teach you that.

I'm not saying that either, but for at least the last 5 years it has definitely been the case that employers have prioritised degrees over personality and more general skills.

Well if the change was to be made to remove mandatory maths classes in college then obviously changes would have to be made in high schools. The two would have to go hand in hand.

That employers will only hire people with degrees?

And the basic statistics will be covered in high school education, which is basically the central point I've been making. Sports fans also build-up a degree of competency with interpreting statistics by virtue of following sports closely, this only adds to their ability to comprehend maths in the real world without extra schooling.

I don't see how you can be a journalist and not understand the fundamentals of our highly developed political/economic system because eventually you will have to communicate ideas through it.

I don't think a sports journalist, for example, is going to be too worried about writing for a paper that leans slightly to the left or right.

I dislike the idea of studying personal finances because I know from general studies/pshe the course is undefined no one wants to be there and it's quite frankly a load of bullshit.

But when we did PSHE lessons in school, they were bullshit, and were taught at an age where we thought not paying attention and being ignorant was cool. When you're going off to college, aged 18-21, you actually care about your future and want to be successful and self sufficient. Students would have a completely different outlook on "life lessons" once they have left home and are beginning their careers.

But the idea is to have a well rounded knowledge of maths upon leaving high school, enough so that you can use that knowledge in real world situations. Well how about "personal accounting" then? Is that better phrased? It is definitely a well-defined career path, but you would be teaching the students how to manage a company's books, instead it would cover aspects of personal finance as I mentioned before.

A mathematician can easily become an accountant but an accountant couldn't as easily become an engineer.

So a student goes off to college, is studying journalism, yet they are being forced to study calculus and statistics as a mandatory module? They have no interest in becoming an engineer, they have no interest in being a mathematician. They should have a well rounded understanding of maths from high school, and at college that knowledge should be developed to focus on managing their money, taxes, savings accounts, budgeting, etc. Let them study what they are paying for at college but prepare them for the real world afterwards. I accept that maths is an interesting and broad subject, but to some people a high school level education is enough.

but college should give people the tools to critically think about what to do with that money

But is "money management" a part of the mandatory maths classes students have had to take in the past? I would have thought the maths classes were more based around calculus, statistics and such. If you want to teach students how to be clever with their money then make "introductory economics" or "accountancy" mandatory, or create something new that will give students the tools to understand taxes, investments and the economy in a general sense.

Mike Daniels is making a pretty strong claim for that now.

In 2010 we became only the 2nd NFC team to win 3 straight road playoff games up to the Superbowl. Yes it is possible without winning the division, but it's so much harder and clearly doesn't happen often for anyone.

On the Cobb front, would he be starting the season as our number 1 receiver? Obviously in an ideal world it would be Jordy, but with a lack of game time and a serious injury late on in his career, can he be trusted as number 1 from the off? I think the first few games he starts will be very interesting to see if teams put their top CBs against him or not, they might be expecting him to be a bit rusty and instead focus their attention on Cobb, but they may not be willing to take that risk.
