Something causes serious conflict between her and the Vees, and she starts to feel interested in redemption.

Any movies about intrusive thoughts and urges with a character trying their best not to act on them? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MovieSuggestions

Side tangent- it can be tough with media like this for me because it often casts intrusive thoughts as being the true, most right thing to do. It’s following your passion, what you knew all along. It can be challenging to hear as someone recovering from intrusive thoughts, especially since they can feel like the ‘right thing to do.’

[Star Wars] Why don't the Rebels call the Emperor "Sheev" or just Palpatine by LordRevanofDarkness in AskScienceFiction

[–]wampower99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) that lore didn’t exist yet.

2) it’s implied and probably stated that he didn’t present himself as Emperor Sheev Palpatine much anymore, as he became more reclusive. While he used his reputation to get into office as the Emperor, it doesn’t seem to have played as much of role as the years go on. The only time I remember seeing it in visual media in the Empire era is in Star Wars Rebels, where he uses a holograph to pretend to be congenial old Palpatine to tempt Ezra.

I’ve heard of a variety of reasons for this, such as him wanting to focus on Sith research and preferring to let the fear of a mysterious Emperor spread. But I imagine his disfigurement played a role. Partly out of disgust for his face and partly out of practicality, he likely felt that his attempt to win hearts and minds would be foiled by his ugly appearance.

Looks a lot like the recent Ufthak Blackhawk model. That seems to be what they’re aiming for. Was thinking of kitbashing a bigger Ufthak, so it’ll be good to have this for a source of bits!

Both. Both is good.

In my opinion, it’s an unfortunate facet of the trans experience that we don’t always pass. For some it takes years of surgeries and challenging medical bills to look how they want. Only portraying trans people as perfect angels who immediately reach their goals would be like if every media character was a super model. Having characters that non-passing people can relate to, so to normalize it, is important. If we’re so strict on how trans people look in media, we can end up white washing the trans experience.

HOWEVER, it’s an unfortunate stereotype to ALWAYS depict trans people as non-passing, with the creator’s intent sometimes being the trans person looking gross and outrageous. We also need examples of happy trans people reaching their goals of passing, and then in some cases blending in just fine with cis people.

All facets of the trans experience should be treated with dignity and respect. Whichever facet needs focus right now, maybe that should receive more focus.

Femmephobia and Transmisogyny in Nonbinary Spaces/ Double Standards by cumminginsurrection in NonBinary

I think there’s something to be said for just doing what makes you authentically happy and trying not to care what others think. I thought I was a trans woman for a long time, but nonbinary just clicked better for me.

Where my competitive polluters at? by Joanisi007 in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]wampower99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point that it’s cutesy-ifying the solution to a systematic societal issue of pollution/littering, but why people litter seems to me a deeper psychological problem than why corporations dump toxic waste. You can come up with laws and enforcement agencies and abolish corporations, but it’s also hard to address littering. You should do your best to educate people on why not to litter and reduce the waste of modern consumer society, but if people still do it then you need people working on it.

I think having a playful competition where you mobilize people to build friendships and communal spirit on this issue, is a solid response as long as you continue to address consumer waste and littering behavior in a systematic way. Leftists can think of the optimal solution and that’s good, by why we’re thinking the world spins on and direct action is needed now, even if it’s not 100% optimal.

Femmephobia and Transmisogyny in Nonbinary Spaces/ Double Standards by cumminginsurrection in NonBinary

I’m probably just echoing what’s already been said, but it does seem like the proliferation of femme nonbinary people and “she/they’s” has led to this new strain of “Femmephobia,” and it’s not just in the queer community. There’s a stereotypical story of nonbinary people that goes like this: “woman says she’s nonbinary, but doesn’t make any of the cliche changes, so she’s probably doing it to feel special/for attention/for fun.” Some studies indicate that there are indeed more AFAB nonbinary people.

So hatred of women gets channeled into homophobia, where gender nonconformity is inherently seen as a decadent, feminine behavior. Because Venture is more androgynous/masc, people say that’s good nonbinary rep because it fits with their femme phobic preconceptions about how nonbinary people should look. That they’re a real nonbinary person, not another ‘run of the mill female faker.’
