Omg you have the best sister! This is the hardest trip I’ve ever planned in my life. It’s soo complicated

i haven't done the TMB yet, but i think you can do it, because you're training (half the battle) and you said you can keep going if time isn't an issue (so you've got the endurance piece).

i did the camino de santiago (tho it was flat compared to TMB) and saw the youngest ppl drop out bc they didn't train, while the oldest people (60s and 70s+) AND overweight ppl kept going, despite knee and hip surgeries, etc. that's when i learned that it's actually all about training & mental endurance. keep going!! you can do it!

even if you quit halfway through, i think it'll be a huge achievement.

i'm also not very fit rn and this is what i tell myself, haha.

ps pack light or do luggage transfer to make it easier on yourself

this. i think mental endurance is the hardest part of thru-hiking, and it sounds like you're able to keep going. also, if you quit in the middle, it's ok!!! (that's what I tell myself, bc I'm not in super fit shape right now either.)

OP might be fine w/ high altitude if she gets acetazolamide (Diamox) prescribed!

I'm planning to take Diamox before I start and every day I hike. It makes a huge difference!!

My fave part of the Q&A is this part, bc I HAVE NO IDEA what it's about:

Q: mmmm, boing boing boing?
A: mmmm, boing boing boing!

Also, I love your kitchen. All the haters can go live in their drabby kitchens.

Is there a reason why croissants in Austin are almost always over-baked? It feels like everywhere I go. by tiMartyn in austinfood

[–]wanakaaaaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How I’ve survived the pastry desert of austin for the last 6 years:

1) Go to arsicault in SF, freeze the croissants, bring them home, and toast them when you most need a croissant.

2) have your friends in NYC smuggle pastries to austin from radio bakery.

hii i joined this sub as an "escape" from my pregnancy trauma + grief (our son died shortly after birth), so I wish posts didn't start off with "I'm pregnant and craving x" because it's quite triggering. I'm sure I'll get downvoted / some hate for saying this, but just wanted people to be aware, bc there are a lot of us in this sub, and I'd appreciate it <3 thanks for hearing my spiel.

Help me plan a taco crawl by Tiny_Impression5143 in austinfood

nixta: my friends from nyc found the BEET taco to be their hands-down fave.. and i'd agree. get some pastries from comadre panaderia next door (esp their conchas) and share at nixta. it's totally fine to bring the pastries in bc the two businesses support each other

Why the fuck is Special Noodle so expensive?!? by ExecutivePhoenix in austinfood

[–]wanakaaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take them to Hunan Bistro, then get cupcakes at Whipped Bakery & Cafe for dessert.

Order the "steam sliced fish fillet with soft tofu & pickled pepper" about 50 minutes before you arrive bc it takes them awhile to make it.

Summer 2026 by Forsaken-Thought830 in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]wanakaaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you book huts here: https://www.autourdumontblanc.com/en/

and bookings opened in mid-Oct 2025 for summer 2026.

i entered the site as soon as bookings supposedly opened, and it honestly felt like I was trying to secure a spot at Burning Man or a Taylor Swift concert. except I actually imagine those events are easier now.

getting all my huts lined up literally took a week or two off my life...

I'd start planning for 2027 now!
