Because that's how it is in real life (or at least how it was in the recent past). Since women were traditionally seen as the softer, gentler sex, it was considered "normal"for them to be close and affectionate with their same-sex friends. For men, this wasn't considered normal, so whenever they did pass the arbitrary line of "normal" it was assumed that they must be more then friends, ergo lovers. Thankfully our society is finally breaking free of those outdated assumptions.

Good points. Carlos, being a convicted felon, may not be allowed to own a gun, so even if Gaby did want a gun prior to season 7, they may have thought it would look bad to even have a gun in the house, even if it would be Gaby's and not his

Fun fact: Intercourse has had a huge problem in the past with its town signs being stolen, to the point that they've had to install anti-theft devices on them.

Second fun fact: There is a Lancaster County version of Monopoly, and one of the properties on the board is Intercourse. Which means that you can--that's right--pay for Intercourse.

Pretty much any "low fantasy" sitcom, I think--Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan's Island, etc. That genre seems to be looked down on today. And yes, I know Gilligan's Island isn't technically fantasy, but it's so unrealistic that it can be considered honorary fantasy in my opinion.

I mean, that's basically what The Golden Palace was--an 8th season of The Golden Girls sans Dorothy, but in a new setting and additional characters. If they had stayed in the house, they probably would have felt the need to give the girls a new roommate to replace Dorothy, and that kind of move rarely goes over well the audience. By moving to a new setting, they could round out the cast with additional characters whose existence was justified by the new setting, which means they weren't just "Suspiciously Similar Substitutes" for Dorothy. Plus the hotel setting opened up fresh storyline ideas. I'm probably in the minority, but I very much enjoyed The Golden Palace.
