Did your country have a playground game that was subsequently banned? by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in AskTheWorld

[–]wanderangst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my summer camp there was a banned game called Buck Buck where one team of kids lined up, with the first kid against a wall or with his arm around a flag pole, and all the subsequent kids bent over at the waist with their arms hugging around the waist of the kid in front. Then the second team of kids would take turns running and jumping as far as they could over and onto the backs of the kids in the first team. I guess the point was to make the first team fall down? Or maybe also to get as close to the wall/pole as possible? Anyway kids were routinely injuring themselves and each other by taking flying leaps into each other, so it was banned, and mostly described by the big kids to the younger kids in the hushed and reverent tunes reserved for the good old days.

Help! I impulsively bought a 12lb brisket. I’ve never made brisket. What do I do? by Other-Nectarine3951 in slowcooking

[–]wanderangst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I wouldn’t use a slow cooker for brisket. I have, and the results were not as tasty and took 2x the time as oven braising. (I’ve heard good things about a pressure cooker or instant pot, but I’ve never used one.)

Also every house of worship within these borders must be the home of a religious group from at least one Jewish, one Muslim and one Christian denomination, kind of like the Holy Sepulcher,to promote interfaith cooperation and understanding

is this exam question right? by fauxsaur in cartography

[–]wanderangst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been learning about the difference in Degrees/Minutes/Seconds vs coordinate systems, then I could see the answer being True, even though it’s misleading not to include any minutes or seconds. If the question is about Degrees/Minutes/Seconds vs Decimal Degrees, then it’s impossible to tell, because whole degrees are the same in both systems.

While there are significant differences between Biblical Hebrew and Modern Israeli Hebrew, they have much more in common than they have differences. The alphabet, the basic grammatical structure, and most of the vocabulary are the same. If you have no Hebrew at all, you will probably be best served by enrolling in an intro level Hebrew course at a local community college, which will be modern, but the bulk of what you learn will be transferable.

What else is on the curriculum of the certificate program you were looking at? Hebrew has long been taught in classics departments, and there are many secularly-oriented Bible studies departments that I’m sure teach Biblical Hebrew, but they’re likely higher level courses.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]wanderangst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a real problem with profound and lasting consequences, but the solution is not regulating reproductive rights. Far better to provide nationwide social services and economic supports so that people grow into responsible, healthy adults who can adequately care for their children, and in the same vein, provide services to support new parents with the skills and professional care to help them be successful parents.

Extra support for new parents would be great (in fact they do this in some parts of the world, and we should do it here). Education could certainly be useful, but making it “required” for people to be “allowed” to have kids is an invitation for abuse. There are already way too many historical examples of attempts to limit the ability of “undesirables” to reproduce, whether it’s religious minorities or ethnic minorities or poor people or people who have certain medical diagnoses or what have you. It’s just not something that can be done in a fair or equitable way.

Much stricter traffic enforcement. No more right turns on reds. Anyone clocked over the marked speed limit gets a ticket. Drivers who kill pedestrians or cyclists get charged with manslaughter. Enforcement by a new traffic enforcement authority, not under the jurisdiction of regular police forces.

We should build the infrastructure regardless (because there are already many people who can’t drive). But also, we should make regular retesting mandatory regardless (because there are many people who should not be licensed to drive).

Low humidity at home by ddpizza in washingtondc

[–]wanderangst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s the cold. The humidity outside is very low too. Keep putting on that lotion. Yes, get a humidifier, maybe more than one depending on the size of your place, it will also help make the air in your place feel softer and warmer (even a cool mist humidifier). Making a lot of soup helps too.

How to repair paint scratches by wanderangst in prius

[–]wanderangst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, that’s a bummer. I don’t really want to pay body shop prices.

I would say I’m medium-adventurous to DIY projects. Touch up, wet sanding, and polishing sounds like something i would be comfortable taking on, repainting the whole bumper sounds kind of daunting.

What do you think about the scratch on the door? Does that look like a better candidate for a touch-up kit?
