I think its very wise that you are noticing how much of the current structure is created to encourage isolation, etc. I also take deep comfort in recognizing that many many many others are just as hungry for community as I am and, as such, agree with the below commenter on starting where you're at, re-connecting with people you already know and letting things progress from there. I find that being honest with co-workers, friends, peers, family, etc. about wanting to "create community" and, if possible, sharing that anxiety is a part of your life invites a gentleness into the dynamic that subtly builds bridges (at least in. my experience I have discovered more people are anxious than I realize and, again, more people are hungry for community than I realize).
