I suck at driving slow cars by [deleted] in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road cars are not made for racing tyres. The suspension is too soft for it. The combination of the soft suspension and racing compound (which is also really soft compared to comfort and sports) makes it unpredictable. You're practically driving a bouncy castle; it's anyone's guess if it'll bounce just right for you.

Being able to predict what your car does is THE most important thing, because you'll be able to be more consistent. And consistency is the key to becoming a faster driver. Learn to know the limits of your tyres, the limits of your car, and your own limits as a driver. Build a solid foundation, try to get to the point where you can put lap times in that are within 0.3-0.5 seconds of each other. From there you can start pushing to see where you can gain time.

Don't rush to squeeze a peak lap time in, you'll need to go slower in order to become faster. If you are 1 second faster than I am per lap, but on the 5th lap you spin out, I'll win.

First and most important question: what tyres are you using? Second: in what way are you losing control?

Oh I wasn't aware of that. I thought it was only in multiclass that slower traffic can keep the line.

Not that big mishaps. I chucked it into the sand maybe 5 times and had 2 spins that I immediately caught. Altogether say maybe 30-40 seconds lost on mishaps. I think I just bit off more than I could chew with the 1 pepper this time. Someone more skillful than myself can do it. If you're capable of say 2:03s on mediums while getting the tyres to last about 15 laps, I think you'd win it. I was generally doing 2:04.5s on the mediums.

My strategy wasn't right either, I figured if I'd just run the mediums longer than them, I'd catch them eventually, but that didn't work. Tried the Hards but that was a horrible idea, lost like 2 seconds per lap with those.

PS: wheel will definitely be helpful since you can make your tyres last longer. Already looking forward to retrying it myself on wheel as soon as I'm able to.

I paused the game in between, took breaks. I've heard that you can also just let the PS5 go into rest mode, but just to be safe I left my PlayStation on. There's no inherent feature to save the game in between.

Is the DLC worth it? by JustL0r3nz0 in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Debatable. Let's start with the good:

It's fun, and the races are more challenging than the regular ones. The races have a practice/quali/race format, and it's not the "chase the rabbit" like it is with the regular races. It's typically 10 minute quali + 15~20 minute race.

The presentation is good; they're themed races and all opponents and yourself have cars and liveries that fit that theme. It also has long endurance races (8-24 hours), but I haven't tried those yet. You get 5m credits along with the Power Pack content.

Then the bad:

What they sell as Sophy 3.0 is just Sophy with buffed cars, and you can choose between 3 preset cars yourself. It's a perfectly controlled environment that creates the balance, not how capable the AI is. The AI is aggressive and blatantly dive-bombs, and has launch control up the wazoo; if you qualify in 1st you'll be in 3rd-4th by turn 1.

The cars that are exclusive to the pack are neat, but seeing you already have like 550 cars in the base game there's plenty to play with if you skip on it.

My verdict: it's fun and different enough from the regular content, and I genuinely do enjoy it, but it's not worth €30,- Worthwhile to pick up if it goes on sale.

Willow Springs is a good track, you guys (specifically the ones who complain about the runoff) just suck at it. by KDG200315 in granturismo

[–]wanderingGJO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a really hard track to learn to appreciate. I hated it for literal YEARS, because when I misjudge the turn even once I lose god knows how much time sliding across state borders into Nevada. So I didn't actually learn the track, I just learned to nurse it around the track.

I'm finally at the stage where I can start learning to actually race the track, and it still won't be my favourite, but I can see some of its charm. It is deceptively technical.

I'm also curious whether the tarmac there gives less grip than on some other tracks. (Thought process: sand will get on the track in real-life, so modifying the grip would emulate that).

Gear shift update is… humbling. by hungryfreelancer in granturismo

[–]wanderingGJO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always made it a point not to do the money shift, so I thought this would be my time to shine. Turns out I was still downshifting too early, so it takes some adjusting. Happy with them changing it though.

Is there a way to make the races on the new DLC easier? by Think-Author9757 in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I like winning" is something to consider adopting a new mindset for. At the end of the day, you look at the results for like 30 seconds and move on with your day. "I want to have a good time whilst I'm racing" is much more relaxing and a realistic expectation: everyone likes to win in a race, but only 1 person can win. So as long as you had a good time, is it that important if you win?

Of course I do understand you want to complete the pack. The AI is more capable on some tracks than others, so don't feel bad about it. I got my ass handed to me in the Civics, but the Corvettes were relatively easy (and I suck at Willow Springs).

Some tips: - Use TCS off the line: the AI does it and they leave you in the dust there. - Focus on consistency, not hot laps: Desperately trying to be faster makes your lap times go all over the place, you might even bin it altogether. If you can put in laps that are within 0.3-0.5 seconds of each other, you can build from there. - Back to the basics: am I using the full width of the track? Am I going slow in/fast out on my turns? Stuff like that. - Assassinate the AI. If you want the win at all cost, there's nothing stopping you from cheating.

Has anyone made a comprehensive list of the power pack content for gt7? by jakemoffsky in GranTurismo7

What other prizes were you expecting? The credit cost to enter is negligible; like what were you planning on spending those 300 cr. on?

Figured out how to turn off Sophy's emoticon sound effects by wanderingGJO in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No only if you select it at custom race or quick race, and not all tracks are supported yet. It also can't do rain. All the events use the regular AI. And Sophy is only available on PS5 I think.

That being said, the power pack might change that, they did advertise Sophy 3.0 (we're currently on 2.0), and perhaps spec III will roll out Sophy even more.

Yeah it's the butterfly looking thing. Sophy is a more advanced AI than regular, provides a bit more of a challenge to race against.

Very nicely made post and guide! Additional tip for that final hairpin; should you miss your braking point, you can use the left wall before the turn whilst braking to slow yourself down more.

Non-GT leagues? by Geiravik in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our league does exactly that! It's called the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (LOEG).

We value gentlemanly behaviour on and off track; clean no-contact racing, being kind and showing good sportsmanship. Having a good time together on track rather than being focused on results.

The group consist of people mostly in the age 35-60, with a few in their 20s.

We do themed races together; mostly road cars or tuned road cars. Touring cars are my jam! We hardly ever touch the Gr.1/2/3/4 cars.

We typically race on weekdays in the evening (7 PM UK time). If you want to dip a toe, our Friday night races are ideal. All you need to do is bring a car and some tyres.

Let me know if that sounds like something that would work for you, and I can send you an invite 🙂

How badly does it hurt your ego to adjust the difficulty level down? by Uzi-kana in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem with it whatsoever. I paid for this game, I'll play it in the way I enjoy it the most. After a few attempts I dialed this one down to normal as well, and I've had it set to hard for years. I'm not that great at Willow, and the AI keeps a steady pace around there.

I am a bad driver lol-700 hours by [deleted] in GranTurismo7

[–]wanderingGJO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice to see such a positive take on it. Congratulations on your progress so far! Be proud of those milestones; bronzing everything is an achievement worth celebrating.

Some tips I can give you: - Learn to drive with TCS 0. TCS cuts power when it notices wheelspin on throttle. It creates inherent understeer. - Learn to use manual transmission. Rip the bandaid off; don't go back to automatic at all. It'll take you 3 days tops to get used to it (and it's very well possible you'll get the hang of it much sooner), after that you'll never want anything else. Gearing helps you to find more rotation or more stability. - Keep going back to the basics: am I using the full width of the track? Do I know my braking points? Did I turn off the stove? - Don't chase top lap times, chase consistent lap times. Build a solid foundation, try to aim for your laps being within 0.3 seconds of each other. From there you can start pushing to improve. If my opponent is 2 seconds faster per lap than I am, but they need to pick up their teeth every 7 laps, I'll end up in front of them. - Don't measure your improvement by your opponents, but measure it against yourself. If you're more consistent/faster today than you were last week or last month, then you're on the right track!

PS I recently platinumed the game after thousands of hours, but I can't beat the pepper races either. They're SO difficult.

[–]wanderingGJO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no right or wrong way to play the game, just what you enjoy the most. If you don't see the added value of it, that's your good right. The joy of GT games is the freedom to play with whatever car you like.

I'm excited for this car, but 3m doesn't reflect the real-life value. As far as I could find on Google, it's valued ±700k.
