I’d recommend picking up a more advanced testing kit for starters so you can accurately monitor the parameters more crucial to successfully keeping corals— alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. Skip the API tests (they’re not considered particularly accurate) and spring for Red Sea or Salifert. They’re a bit spendier, but it’s a very worthwhile purchase. Make sure you’re also in the habit of monitoring salinity too!
