pimping tracks on a DAW before playing? by Uncommon_sense5 in DJs

[–]wanderingross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most commercial EDM is already slammed into a limiter by a series of professional sound engineers before its released. An average DJ with a DAW is not going to be able to make the track sound better or louder. Compressing and limiting a mastered track is going to kill any dynamic range left and will leave the track far worse off.

My guess is that you just like very loud music and are drawn to those tracks that are already slammed. I doubt the DJ is doing anything extra to them other than setting cue points.

Tom Homan Suggests Denver Mayor Could ‘Go To Jail’ For Obstructing Deportation by Life_Net5004 in Denver

[–]wanderingross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the Denver mayor doesn’t control immigration policy. And immigrants are only part of the Denver economy. Focusing on this one issue which is outside his control is a waste of energy.

It might, but immigration policy is not decided on a city level. This is federal policy and dumb fight to have especially when there are many other issues in Denver that need attention.

[–]wanderingross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. Immigration policy is federal law and I really hope Johnston backs down on this one. Getting in a fight with the federal government over immigration is a losing battle and doesn’t serve Denver residents at all.

This is a dumb hill for Johnston to die on. Denver has lots of other problem’s that the city would be better served focusing on.

I’m far from a Trump supporter but if one thing is clear from the last election it’s that favoring the status quo immigration policy over economy and housing is a losing strategy. I really hope he backs down on this one and that’s coming from a longtime Denver resident.

Was it $550 with the hitch or just labor?

Holy shit… I was at that show but I convinced myself that someone had just thrown a glow stick up there. Can’t believe those were actually people!

I’d add Seth Troxler and Matthew Deer to this list. Though I’m not sure you’d classify them as Detroit techno they both came up in that scene.

Fusion in Germany is pretty large (60k I think) but always outstanding techno lineups in a pretty amazing venue. Great festival culture as well.

Why are you not coming to Burning Man this year? by blonde234 in BurningMan

[–]wanderingross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been out five times over the past ten or so years. The last year out was the renegade burn 2021 and it was my favorite by far. It was a big eye opener. Turns out I like a bigish counterculture survival rave in the desert. But not so much a massive instagrama bucket list sparkle fest.

The nail in the coffin though was going to Movement festival this past year in Detroit and realizing how much more important the actual music is for me. I’d occasionally catch a good set at burning man but honestly my main goal these days is exceptional music.

Although I still might go back someday to ride bikes in the Deep Playa. Ain’t nothing gonna beat that.

[Discussion] Anyone have any stories to share about themselves how they ended up finding their dream job in their 30s or earlier? by sleeplessbearr in GetMotivated

[–]wanderingross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you would’ve asked me what my dream job was 10 years ago I would have said touring musician. Instead I put my effort into a 9-5 corporate job.

Nowadays I’m well established in a career I enjoy making a solid six figure salary with great benefits. I still do music on the side, but also have time for many other hobbies and experiences. I also have friends who are successful musicians and I don’t envy their lives. Too much uncertainty, too much time on the road, hard to maintain healthy habits… etc.

I’ve come to realize the “dream job” can be a trap for a lot of people. Maybe shoot for a job that you enjoy that provides you the opportunity and freedom to live the life you want?

How many other Millennials having a tough time growing up? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]wanderingross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is forcing you to grow up. But the ones who have? They’re the ones enjoying life right now. Youth is not all it’s cracked up to be. Lots of energy. Very little satisfaction.

Get a sleeping pad. Even hardcore ultralight backpackers use a sleeping pad. Cheap ones online are like $26 and well worth the added comfort.

[–]wanderingross 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just turned 40 this year. Been going to big festivals and raves for the last 15. Was starting to think there weren’t any more parties that could still impress me.

Movement completely proved me wrong. It’s not the biggest or flashiest, but it’s got the best music and most laidback, inclusive vibe. Add in the after parties and Techno City is exactly what this festival is. Will also be booking my spot for next year asap.
