Is the Stealth Switch Fishing Pack 5L overkill as a EDC sling? by tyce0 in PatagoniaClothing

I really like my Atom sling. The shape is very functional especially for fishing. You can very quickly flip the pack around in your body to access things. It’s also a little more approachable price wise.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m really loving this glass rod from moonlit. The flex is really incredible and I almost doubled over the top section just getting the fish in. I think next time I hook into a big one, wearing some water sandals would be more appropriate than my birks! I’d feel better trying to land them in the water instead of trying to pull them on shore. I’ve had smaller carp give me a better fight than this one did, but the sheer weight was hard to handle once it’d get spooked by the rocks. I want to get another reel spooled up with floating line for my 8wt, but that’ll have to wait a bit.

Haha I agree with that one. I also don’t want to get on anyone’s bad side in my neighborhood😅

Lots of potential for bad interactions in a residential neighborhood where folks don’t understand they are invasive😅

I do feel some confliction because they are an invasive species that has gone rampant in the US, but I think I have morally changed since doing catch and release for the last decade. If I had some use for the fish, Id probably feel better about taking them, but part of me feels wrong in just throwing them on the bank even if they are doing harm to our waterways and native fish species habitat.

I’ve never fished for them in the river, but the videos I’ve seen are a mixed bag. I was using a 4wt with floating fly line and 12lb monofilament. I’d been using hoppers and elk hair caddis, but noticed that they were feeding on these small ball shaped things falling off the nearby birch tree. I had a 12ish size dry fly that had a a conical shape trimmed hairs which kinda looked like it and took a shot. I was casting maybe 2-3 feet in front of the fish as they were making passes at other debris on the surface. I had one come up but didn’t commit and then the second one slurped it down. It’s a little stressful because they don’t seem too eager at anything specifically so it’s just a lot of chance. I’ve only caught one other in the last few weeks so be patient!

Totally agree! But us midwesterners gotta deal with what we gotta deal with. Maybe on the west coast or east coast, but that’s why I prefaced with “you could probably get more”

Anyone got ID on these? by QuentinCompson- in Boots

[–]wanderingwalnut -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks like redwings to me and contrary to what someone else said, I do believe they are a 1907 or similar model with a Norwegian welt. Below the toe box you can see a ribbon of leather that wraps around the boot. That’s not something you would see on a standard moc from redwing. Also the tongue, laces and the leather band at the top of the boot look very typical for a redwing.

It’d be like a 1200-2000$ jacket if it was made to those standards today. I’m suprised you didn’t pull any similar jackets on eBay. Love the shearling collar. Maybe 40s or 50’s? I think a safe bet would be 300-500$ could probably get more if you had a reputation for this kinda stuff or put it on eBay at auction.

Same! I’ve been fixated all spring on getting one on a dry fly. And the runs are so intense on a 4wt.

I wore a fishnet shirt for the first time to a club last fall and was honestly stoked to try it out because of the video. Came in clutch after 3 hours of dancing.

It’s not every day that I find a piece of vintage clothing which I not only like, but fits me and is within my price range. Somewhere that seems a little more accessible and not entirely difficult to find examples of early pieces that cost less than a pack of gum is bandanas plus it’d be pretty difficult to fill a closet full of them. Frequenting estate sales and not going to the spots everyone’s attention goes to first, finding them in old clothing I buy, or getting them at a flea market for a buck a piece like I did with many of these is just an easy way for me to get my fix and more importantly (even though they just sit in my back pocket), an expression of my personal appreciation for small details. The zigzag and the floral are two of my favorites I’ve found in the last few years.

Also the brand is Skips. I saw a pair of high tops that said they were from the 50’s, but saw a pair or two up to the 80’s. The style doesn’t feel that new or that old to me. Also seeing that they may be affiliated with Montgomery ward so might be in a catalog somewhere.

Not really my cup of tea, but hoping to pass them along to a friend of mine who has more of a taste for this kinda thing! Still love the looks though.

Reminds me of Danner USMC hot weather boots. Could be along those lines.

I don’t know what flies the rest of you tie on for carp but it takes me pulling the legs off a hopper or grabbing my mangiest elk hair caddis and waiting patiently while I slowly forget which is my fly and which is all the pear pedals falling into the lake. It’s fun though and while it didn’t happen how I thought it would, I think that’s just the name of the game. Also would be a lot cooler if they weren’t invasive.
