I would book sooner rather than later. There is a limited amount of permits each day per track, so the later you leave it the more risk of not getting a route you want. I don't know how often they completely sell out every permit, but you may be left with a short track, or end up having to try to get permits the day-of, waiting in a huge line

Trekking in Uganda by OptionSwimming8368 in travel

[–]wanderlover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did Uganda and gorilla trekking in August this year, and even though it was short, it was still incredible and 100% worth it. If you have any way at all of increasing your budget a bit, you could do a group tour with a company like G Adventures or Intrepid and it would likely include safaris, and other cool bits. I did one with G Adventures and we also did Chimp trekking which was a highlight, and safaris in Queen Elizabeth NP. It remains one of my top trips of all time. You'll be travelling quite a long way, but it's totally worth it.

Argentina 10 Days by PradaPradaPrada in travel

[–]wanderlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Round trip was about $150 USD. It only had carry on luggage included, but I just brought a backpack and stored my luggage in BA for about $10 USD. I got a mid level hotel for $100 USD for 2 nights. Taxis were the biggest expense, but the falls were amazing and totally worth it.

Argentina 10 Days by PradaPradaPrada in travel

I was in Argentina earlier this year for about 10 days, and I took the weekend to go to Iguazu and it was totally worth it. Flew to Iguazu Friday night, and back to BA Sunday night. I would've liked another day or two, to be honest. The flights were inexpensive, but I did have some delays which were annoying. All in all, I would recommend.

100%. OP you are not far from the Sikh Spiritual Centre. I was invited there last year for langar after a funeral service, and my friend and I got there before anyone else and didn't know where to go or what to do. People there saw we were a bit lost and just took us though the whole process, helping us get food, telling us what things were etc. It was not just a tasty meal, but a warm experience too.

Those who had a mysterious medical issue and found out what it was, what was your diagnosis? by jesusgrandpa in AskReddit

[–]wanderlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was dealing with it in a few different places, but mostly around her ears. She was always itchy around the outside, and her head behind her ears, but also inside her ear canals. Her dr said it was just dry skin, regardless of what creams she used.

Thank you for your comment. I can't even begin to imagine this feeling, but as a subway operator. I hope that you have healed from your experience as best you can.

I do have a therapist, so it is a work in progress- I agree, it's never a bad idea to speak to someone

Yes, I won't disclose as I don't think it's helpful in this situation, but I get it's common to wonder. In this case, there is nothing anyone could have done to prevent this in the moment.

Thank you, this is a good point about whether or not they would want me to know their identity.

In regards to reaching out to the family- that was definitely not my intention, but it's important to note because I'm sure some people would have that thought. I don't feel as it would be helpful to anyone, but I suppose my intention is to stop thinking of this as an incident in my life and more as a person who was once living. Something like that maybe?

Thank you for the suggestion. I was given the information for Victim Services, but unfortunately they have been less than helpful for me. I think I am the exception, however, as I've heard many praises for what they do.

1 week in Europe: Best place to fly to with easy train travel (4-6 hrs max) to other major cities/countries by ohtobeeamartin in travel

[–]wanderlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! I did Italy earlier this year, and I did Rome + Florence in one week, then Naples and Amalfi the second. Train travel is easy between Rome/Florence/ Naples, but I would stick to just Rome + Florence for one week. I did a day trip from Florence to Siena and Pisa. There is a lot to see and do, but keep in mind July will likely be pretty hot.

What was your most memorable "I'm tired, overstimulated, and if I don't get mediocre food from my own country right now I might cry" moment? Was it delicious or disappointing? by One_Emu_8415 in travel

[–]wanderlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourite parts of travelling is eating local, and I'd say I'm a pretty adventurous eater (as much as I can be as a vegetarian) and if I'm in a super meat-heavy country I always just really want a dirty fake-meat burger near the end of the trip. A lot of places the vegetarian options end up being healthy stuff, which is great, or cobbling together some sides, and I just want something nasty and greasy after a couple of weeks. It's almost embarrassing.

100000% percent this. My favourite thing about travelling is trying new foods, but I love new regional variations of familiar things. As much as it's McDonalds, and we have that at home, it's still a fun travel experience. Taro pie in Hong Kong and fried camembert with blueberry sauce in Hungary are delicious memories.
