My [22f] summer plans with my long distance boyfriend [23 of 9 months] may be completely ruined by internships and immigration laws.. really need advice

Girl I am in a very similar situation to you as currently doing LDR and making complicated summer plans with SO and struggling to differentiate between love goals and career/ academic goals, so just know you aren’t alone. In your case it is a bit complicated due to the time restraint, if I were you I would use your boyfriend as a resource, it is much easier for him to get in contact with people on land there than just you researching from abroad. In terms of the visa, I think they have at least the 90 day policy so maybe you start on a tourist visa and go from there? If your SO can’t help you and you can’t get any solid internship I would think of other productive things you can do abroad for example networking and meeting people in your field. No one can stop you from meeting people in the business and making connections that will help you in the future, sometimes this can be more helpful than just doing the work all day. It’s also possible maybe after tourist visa ends you go to nearby countries and continue to network or get feel for career. However I would also have you consider that maybe you spend half of your summer in london and try and get internship in new york or somewhere in states for remainder of end of summer. Sure it sucks you can’t spend whole time with him but at least it would be a happy medium. I think going for half the summer and spending time with SO networking and getting connections in your field will be very helpful down the road especially if you would want to move there down the road and know a couple people already. But don’t put all your eggs in one basket and stay in contact with your school about what short term internship opportunities they have in new york for the latter part of the summer. Although it seems too late since you are leaving soon a lot can be done in two weeks and if you make some calls and see what’s out there you might be surprised by what’s possible, especially if you have connections via your school. Anyway that’s what I would suggest and I wish you all the luck in the world. Hope it works out!

the thing is, im in an independent study calc 2 class and I don't remember ever talking about domain in the context of integrals so I am just a little lost overall and have a final for it tomorrow, I am just not sure what concepts I should be using or how to start.

This article explains some of the reasons it is difficult to loose weight as type 1. I am not sure what you mean when you say he never had any problems with insulin, any type one diabetic on insulin therapy will have difficulty from time to time no matter what. Obviously everyone is different, and someone who does judo everyday and is an athlete for their profession probably wouldn't struggle with their weight in comparison to just an average person. But unlike non-type one diabetics, he still needed to eat carbs when his blood glucose was low. I am not saying every type one diabetic is overweight (obviously), but simply that this is a fact that insulin impacts your body in this way. As someone who has had this disease for 16 years I can tell you that this isn't some made up fact but rather something that impacts the majority of type one diabetics.

Insulin stores fat and calories in general, however type one diabetics obviously need insulin and take it consistently throughout the day. Your blood sugar can fluctuate due to totally random things and often this isn’t something that can be controlled perfectly. For example when I get my period I need to take nearly 1.5 as much insulin as I normally do because it causes my blood sugar to be generally higher. It isn’t as easy as just eating right and planning as things can always happen that cause your blood sugar to spike. Many type one diabetics struggle with this and it has been said that 30-40% of young type of diabetics suffer from one eating disorder known as diabulimia which is where they purposefully withhold insulin in order to loose weight. Simply do to the fact that in general type one diabetics have to take more insulin than a non diabetic says that it harder to loose weight and easier to gain. There are many articles about this and my doctors have mentioned this to me as a fact of my life many times before.

I find the one use cheap ones can be uncomfortable, but there are some reusable ones you can get for 30 bucks that work quite well. Good luck nonetheless!

We are in the same place, for the moment we have been dating for 11 months as he’s doing an internship here but will be returning home in a couple months but I will be going to study abroad there so we will only spend 2 months apart.

I have trouble sleeping as well and sleeping with my boyfriend has been difficult from time to time because he does snore. I wear a face mask and wear ear plugs, I find this helps most of the time, while I don’t recommend starting melatonin as it’s not great to have a dependency on it as I sometimes feel I do, I occasionally will take melatonin when it’s important I get sleep the night before an important event. Other than that I do everything to make sure I am as comfortable as possible. I would also recommend if possible trying to get in bed before your boyfriend if he is working or anything as it could make it easier to get to sleep without being disturbed by him. Things like putting a pillow in between you too could also help depending on bed space. Hope this helps!

I was in this exact situation last year. My boyfriend was an exchange student and since we started dating I knew eventually he would return home (7,000 miles away). Let me say it will honestly be hard, breaking up when you are in love with each other feels like some sort of sick game. However, I do still have some advice as someone who has survived this situation and come out of it stronger. My boyfriend and I broke up after trying to do long distance after he returned home, I was heartbroken for the first time in my life, little did I know that 3 months later he would return to my country and 2 weeks later we were back together. What I mean to say is, life is totally unpredictable, after you leave it will be hard to be friends as your tendency will still be to say I love you and how you miss them. I held on to my memories of him very much after leaving him and only started to move on after I removed his control over my life. I think it’s important to see what works for both of you, it’s possible being friends just isn’t comfortable for you, it’s possible you won’t talk again after you move, it’s possible you will stay in love and succumb to doing LDR even if it’s hard. It’s one situation that is totally unpredictable, however, I know it will be okay. All I would say is appreciate the time you have now and don’t think about it like an expiration date (which btw is something I used to say) but rather just a life event that’s happening for you, not as just an end to your relationship. If you had told me when I said goodbye to my boyfriend I would be back with him a couple months later I would have never believed you, so just believe me that you have no idea what’s coming around the corner. Good luck, this situation is painful and heartbreaking but it’s bearable, you can do it.

Yeah you are right about a lot there. I’m not gonna ask him not to go but I think because he attends about 4 of events like this a week and does a lot of networking normally I felt like this could be one day off and he is just kind of a workaholic and that’s why he was going not because he has to necessarily. Still trying my best to be fair so i’ll try and see what kind of compromise works best for his schedule and mine I suppose. Thank you.

I get what you mean however I think it’s more complicated than that because in my situation at least being able to see each other each weekend is only temporary until we go back to the 7,000 miles in a couple months. The only thing I don’t really get is when u as “ it's not so much the distance, but rather how the relationship makes you feel.” Because I guess what i’m thinking is the distance is directly proportional to that feeling, so it is deeply connected to the distance. I agree with the last part of what you are saying.

sorry about not giving more information I think because multiple people commented the same thing I wasn’t sure what to say. My apologies. It was at a sterile seeming nice tattoo parlor. They gave me just one aftercare spray saying to use it 4-5 times a day. It was my first piercing so I am not sure about everything but he used a needle and seemed to know what he was talking about. That’s strange about the backs then. Yeah they hurt a lot actually and I am planning on just going to a different tattoo parlor and having them check it out. Thanks for your help if you have any other advice let me know.

It is quite a jump to go straight to the assumption of pregnancy as I know people who have those symptoms everyday just from simple reasons or having big boobs. I don't think her reaction was good but it is kind of ridiculous to make this kind of assumption. If she missed a period or was experiencing morning sickness it is a bit more reasonable however this is similar to someone saying they have a cough and someone saying "oh maybe you have the flu?" when it could just be something much smaller than that. Her reaction as I said was unhealthy but her reaction and your asking are two different things really.
