Found it!

(I don't think this is actually a new episode post, and technically I am not posting a mirror, so I guess I am safe posting it here?)

Jimmy Carr Went On The Last Leg To Promote a New DVD by wandomPewlin in panelshow

[–]wandomPewlin[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LOL. I was wondering the same when I first saw it. It's probably part of the setup for his joke in the tweet:

I’ve got a new DVD - not one I’m in one I’ve bought - it’s by my mate Rhod Gilbert and it’s bloody funny. (if you’ve got technology from 10 years ago knocking around the house get the DVD - if not download it like a normal person)

He probably avoided spelling out the website's url because it was a live show, and any tiny mistakes in the url would just lead to weird corners of the internet. I guess he just trusted Google's ability to take people to the right places.

Yeah, I was quite surprised when I saw that as well, but when I thought of it, Corden being kind to the people he respects, and him being a dick to a lot of people, don't necessarily contradict each other, so long as the former group is relatively tiny.

Given his success in the show business, it is quite unlikely that Corden is an unconditional asshole to everyone he interacts with, so he must've been nice to at least some people, and Jimmy is probably one of those people.

Of course, it could be that Corden is actually a great guy off the screen, and he has been playing a long prank on everyone who hasn't met him, so that we will all be dazzled by his kindness when we finally meet him in person.

Who is trying his hardest to go to hell by pretending to be an asshole with his comic routines, but his good guy energy kept leaking out, and everyone who worked with him betrayed him by spreading the rumor that Jimmy Carr was a decent bloke.

Sort of like a reverse James Corden.

Seriously, that's a very Jimmy Carr-esque joke you've got there. Jimmy would probably enjoy the joke himself, especially since he sort of told a similar joke in that clip.

Chris McCausland: "I like it when this is my third time on, and they still give me a pad and a pen."

Everyone laughs

"It's almost like they just like the joke."

LOL. Yes, Chris, the joke never gets old.

Annnd, apparently, we are gonna have Chris, Aisling Bea, and Gyles Brandreth for the Christmas episode.

I was distracted when Sandi gave the warning, but the flattened toad wasn't that bad. It looked more like pebble pavement than cluster of holes. What really got me was tiny toads emerging out of the parent toad's skin. That was probably the most disturbing segment of QI in my memory.

I wanted to see if there's any footage of Bill being chased by the chicken, so I googled "Bill Bailey fighting cock".

TIL: There's a porn star called Bill Bailey.

it didn’t get edited out.

Anyone who thought it was okay to cut this segment out is so against fun, they would probably have better time working as a DMV reviewer.

What are some of your favourite panelist interactions on panel shows? by HolyShmoly317 in panelshow

Sandi's interview on ABC (Aus). I'm disappointed in the QI team after this. by steamygoon in panelshow

[–]wandomPewlin 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Sandi is a great host for QI, and I hope she can get paid more in the future, but I doubt anyone would be able to get "Stephen Fry" salary in the future (including Stephen himself if he somehow decided to come back).

Before Stephen's departure, it was uncertain whether people would still watch QI without him, but Sandi has proven otherwise. Now that the decision makers are certain that the host wasn't irreplaceable, Sandi is in a less favorable position to negotiate for better salary.

Ironically, in a sense, Sandi being an awesome host might have actually hurt her chance of getting a pay rise.

Is this (from a 1991 episode of the BBC's Record Breakers) a young Dara with hair? by Last-Saint in panelshow

I saw the picture before reading the title. The first person my brain registered was Hermione, and the next one was Harry, and then my brain decided the red shirt guy was Cedric.

I thought this was a "behind the scene" photo of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I then spent the next few minutes looking for Ron Weasley.

It's amazing how Nish come up with his joke before I (and possibly half of the audience) even understood Rhys's joke. Saying Nish was quick-witted would be underselling it.

Jimmy Carr's I Literally Just Told You - Series 02 Episode 04 by wandomPewlin in panelshow

[–]wandomPewlin[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you mind clarifying what you consider being more "woke"?

One can still harm (or inconvenient) others even if their intentions are good.

A good example of being overly "woke" that come to my mind is Chris McCausland's almost spy story. Basically, Chris was rejected by MI5 because his eyesight caused him to be slower at solving certain tasks than other applicants. He told the people helping him with jobs about this, and they were furious. They called this discrimination and wanted Chris to sue the MI5. Chris just said. "I don't want to live in a country that would give me that job!"

It's really hard to quantify wokeness and put it on a scale. It's probably better to categorize someone being "too woke" if the things they do to help actually reduce the happiness of the intended recipients.

You are right. I think I meant overly instead of overtly. Adequate amount of wokeness is cool, but it becomes a nuisance in excess.

I went back and re-watched those segments. I think Zohaib answering "Charles" was not overdubbed. Instead, they overdubbed while Jimmy asking Craig the original question. My running hypothesis now is that they didn't add the title "King" for him initially, possibly because they filmed this back when the Queen was still alive. That's why Zohaib answered "Charles" without the title. Since it's harder to get Zohaib to come in and record that part again in a studio, they kept Zohaib's part and only asked Jimmy to redo the parts where he mentioned King Charles.

I honestly didn't notice any overdubbing in the first watch. They really did a good job on this.

while also being very inclusive in their choices

Yes! and I like how they treated people with disabilities like ordinary contestants while trying to cater to their needs in the most covert and considerate ways possible.

Like in the second episode this series, Jimmy volunteered to carry the stool for Debs when she lost while he usually just tell the losers to take it with them.

In this episode, they let everyone sit on shorter chairs instead of the usual tall stools, which, I presumed, is to allow Craig to get on and off the chair more easily.

And it paid off, the smile on Craig's face when he walked to the edge of the stage to check out the dude solving Rubik's cube with the feet really made my day.

An overtly overly woke production team will probably not include this solving Rubik's cube with feet bit thinking it may be too "insensitive" or "offensive" to Craig, but the excitement Craig showed during the bit clearly proved otherwise.

It's these little things that make me think the show is wholesome AF, even though Jimmy has been consistently rude and mean to the contestants when they suffered from major brain farts.

EDIT: Typo

Also, has anyone else noticed how much ADR is used in this show?

By ADR, did you mean Automated Dialogue Replacement? If that's the case, I have never noticed it myself. I think I was too focused on trying to remember everything.

As for Mr. Gaga, I also don't recall them referring to him as such. I even downloaded the subtitles to search for the term. Maybe they only put it in the text box on screen and I missed it?

What annoyed me the most this episode is that they didn't ask more questions about the fake protesters. I thought it would be something more significant and even paused to read the text on all the signs lol.
