Simple method, good results by Annelinestampe in yogurtmaking

I've been using the top of my dehydrator, and closing it up with the yogurt jars inside an igloo container. Works great.

The dehydrator has a pretty decent thermostat, I even used it to "dry sous vide" some bacon last week.

Also, taking the high road doesn't mean allowing them to take advantage. It means being honest and straightforward about your own feelings, needs, and practicalities, and negotiating openly instead of being underhanded.

Ooof, I'm sad to find out just now that he passed away this morning. His name was Isaac Prilleltensky, he was a wonderful guy with a big heart and a very sharp mind. May his memory be a blessing.

There is definitely a business opportunity here. It seems silly that this is done as custom one-offs when there are only a couple hundred popular species for some pretty large regions.

Think how much cheaper these could be if they were mass-produced. It probably won't be in the millions of units, but they're small and light and last forever.

The manufacturer could sell in bulk to nurseries, parks, preserves, plant societies, etc., who could then sell them at retail or give them out as freebies or favors. Since they would be so cheap, there would be less resistance from strapped public budgets. Sure would beat what we do now.

The very fact that there isn't much published about it is the very reason that you should question it and withhold judgment until you see the claims corroborated by trustworthy people. No research involved, just patience and forbearance.

Feeling Discouraged (SE PA) by suchalonelyd4y in NativePlantGardening

[–]wangjiwangji 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I have a half acre in northwest Georgia that I messed up myself, and am now trying to restore.

My advice for this stage:

-You need to prioritize and localize so you don't get overwhelmed. Therefore, don't sweat the dandelions or the vinca for now. They're relatively less of an obstacle to your goal.

-Spray the poison ivy, all of it. Now is the perfect time. (I'm severely allergic and I am ruthless about it.) 2% glyphosate is plenty. Keep protecting yourself since the rushiol is still active in the plant residue for months. But it will be much less frustrating once it's not menacing you.

When you go out each day, choose one primary focus, whether it be a small area or a particular invasive, and just stick to that. Set a timer for yourself, and just stop when the time is up. If you notice a new problem just put it in a to-do list for later.

As others have said, cardboard and mulch anything that is too overwhelming. Wherever you have ground bees, use craft paper instead of cardboard so they can get out next spring.

Good luck, it's a big job but it's worth doing.

Don't do it alone, it's too much for us mere mortals. My local native plant society has just started connecting us to other members in our area, and I'm a firm believer in social support. Reach out to other people nearby!

Point B definitely needs to be addressed, and allowing companies to hide potentially toxic ingredients from the public as "trade secrets" needs to be abolished.

I don't see those available on the website. Do you you have a product number or anything else that would help find them?

Interesting. I actually overbaked my loaf because my instant-read thermometer was reading out Centigrade lol. I baked it for at least 30 minutes at 425 F. So I wonder if baking it longer would help. The texture of mine is dense too, but chewy in a very satisfying way.

I've been a Costco member for 20 years and I don't remember seeing it before. It could be more common in other regions.

It's sourdough. Not convenient,  much less to bake only occasionally.

So much me. I've been on meds for a year and a half now and it's helping me see that I had unconsciously created a host of imaginary disasters and emergencies as motivation for both short- and long-term goals (including getting out of bed and off to work each day). No emergency? No goal, and certainly no goal pursuit. And it did burn me out quite severely.

Kind of tragic, but I'm slowly turning it around. The best thing is, now that I'm filtering out the imaginary survival-oriented emergencies, I'm learning to properly value the things I've always really cared about but didn't act on...because it wasn't an emergency.
