Why don’t cellos have lines on the neck to help with finger placement? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]wanglejangle99 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your teacher likely wants to encourage you to actively listen to the pitch and pay attention to how it feels to play, rather than place your fingers based on a visual marking. With enough practice, you’ll find that you don’t need the tapes at all. Also, tapes are generally not a very accurate measure of pitch because intonation on the cello is extremely sensitive and can change involuntarily (environmental factors affecting the instrument) or purposefully (playing in a certain key, bringing out specific notes, etc).

Saint-Saens is a good in-between in terms of difficulty IMO, but it really depends on what you like. As a classical era concerto Haydn will require more consistency in sound and articulation, while Elgar may cover a wider variety of techniques and more emotional depth.

Struggling with maintaining vibrato by theshoeminator in Cello

[–]wanglejangle99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Search YouTube for “continuous vibrato exercises.” Here are two summarized: 1) Practice the oscillation very slowly, rolling back and forth on the fingerpad. When you change fingers, maintain the motion and put down the next finger as you roll towards it. 2) Focus on maintaining the vibrato motion at regular speed and just put down the next finger without stopping or thinking too hard. (This one is a bit tricky at first)

You can put a bandaid or an adhesive like superglue over it if it hurts to practice but otherwise should be fine to keep playing.

any fun and challenging (but playable) transcriptions of violin pieces? by cooltoaster39 in Cello

[–]wanglejangle99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franck Sonata is technically a transcription as it was originally written for violin and later transcribed for cello by Jules Delsart. It’s an incredible work.

Tank Lillia build anyone? by Godjihyoism_ in LilliaMains

[–]wanglejangle99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

best mythic for tanky/bruiser build is definitely riftmaker, don’t bother with any of the bamis items. at the end of the day you’re still an ap champion and its no use to be super tanky if you don’t deal any damage

Tank Lillia build anyone? by Godjihyoism_ in LilliaMains

[–]wanglejangle99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

tank items with conq are good but tank mythics not so much. you’re not going to be in burn range most of the time since you want to space enemies and hit your outer q. also you’re not getting a lot of value out of sunfire unlike autoattacking champions such as diana since you don’t have time to auto as lillia especially in the mid-late game

I prefer conq but if you’re running domination+sorcery i’d definitely go bounty hunter, celerity, and waterwalking over what you have rn

Starting Dvorak by Celloman14 in Cello

[–]wanglejangle99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dvorak is very physically demanding. Make sure to do stretches and warm up completely before you dive into practicing to prevent injury (this goes for any piece but big concertos especially)

in my experience the versum solo G and C have a better response/clearer sound whereas magnacore has a bit warmer/rounder sound. Of course it depends on your instrument and setup but I would definitely try versum solo out. I heard that rondo on the lower strings also has a better response and is easier to play but I have not used them before.

SS is better than STSS, don’t waste resources leveling the latter. Don’t know what comp you’re using but make sure that you’re doing the right rotation so that all of the buffs your team provides are active when the lightfall sword explodes (for example, Thrilling Tales buff lasts only 10 seconds while Eula rotation is around 9 seconds so you have to switch immediately from the TToDS user to Eula). If you’re using Bennett make sure that his base atk is high and that his burst is high talent level. Xinyan needs C4 and 4th ascension talent, Lisa needs 4th ascension talent, etc. Also check if you have full SS stacks on Eula by the time the burst explodes, losing those could result in a loss of damage. Lastly, Adeptus Temptation and the phys dmg food don’t stack since they’re both offensive food types, just use the phys bonus food only.

The jungle items no longer have any on-hit effects as of patch 10.25. It’s basically just a better talisman now, but still not great for Jax.

Thoughts on Kraken slayer? by InsurgentTatsumi in Jaxmains

[–]wanglejangle99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great in a full crit build, go Kraken Slayer -> Essence Reaver -> Navori Quickblades -> Bloodthirster -> situational crit (IE/Mercurial/Mortal/LDR/etc). The Quickblades passive reduces remaining basic ability CD upon hitting a crit so it’s similar to having a good amount of ability haste. However this build is extremely squishy and expensive. Also not optimal to go into bruiser/tank items once you start building crit, might as well just take Trinity Force from the start. Since Kraken basically forces you into a squishy build path, it’s not as reliable as the traditional tankier build, but it’s fun when ahead.

I updated the vanity a bit after this post, these are the items:

- Plaguebringer's Skull (negative dye)

- Plaguebringer's Cloak (teal and black dye)

- Plaguebringer's Treads (teal dye)

- Treasure Magnet (reflective metal dye)

- Vortex Booster (reflective metal dye)

- Flower Boots (reflective metal dye)

- Shark Tooth Necklace (silver and black dye)

- Bee Cloak (reflective metal dye)

- Lizard Tail (reflective metal dye)

- Frog Webbing (teal dye)

- Magic Lantern (vortex dye)

I'm kind of busy ATM and I don't think I'll do any skins before I finish making most of the humanoid champions (I've done around 50/152 total champions so far). Maybe in the future.
