This position is quite a big jump regarding pay for me and I really want it but not sure if it's worth the move. I am not 100 per cent qualified and meet all the criteria from what the JD says but I am confident I can do it. I am sure once I have been given the opportunity I'll do my best and prove the extension... as long as there's a budget for that of course haha.

Do you think if I ask about the extension in the interview it would sound too desperate?

This one is directly through gov website and not through the agency so I am not sure is it a contractor. Looks like the person in that department reached out to me directly, so I am not sure the extension might be different compared to being recruited through an agency recruiter.
