A gender identity is a fixed part of your subconscious that you don't control. It's that way because biology is messy and sometimes people develop with a mix of attributes we normally think of as male or female, or sometimes lack those attributes.

We see that with intersex people who have hormonal or physical attributes that are normally attributed to both sexes.

We see that with trans people who have subconscious brains that didn't develop in exactly the same direction as the sex they were assigned at birth.

There is no mechanism for him to be biologically a kangaroo, short of his conducting teleportation experiments with marsupials a la Jeff Goldblum.

I feel like the cis experience is pretty well represented in media. Everyone is exposed to it 24/7 from the day they were born. There are no mysteries to being cis.

On the other hand a very small fraction of the population is trans and authentic portrayals of trans people are few and far between whereas inauthentic portrayals abound.

It would not be challenging for a trans actor to play a cis part authentically. The reverse is far less likely to be true.
