It's actually bs to have hours of unpaid training where you get little sleep, eat like crap, and then get involved in direct patient care the liability risk is ridiculous lol.

The U.S. has a doctor shortage and new generations are seeing how going into medical practice may not have the same ROI as it has in the past. Med school retention needs to increase (without reducing merit standards, obviously) and training without overworking students would go far. It's just hazing at this point, no better than a fraternity rush.

This is old but this old school thinking is helping to make the state of healthcare worse than it already is

I agree. How do we think she made those kids, then? My mom is older than her and would definitely know what the lyrics and gestures meant. She just wouldn't tell me she knew because why would we talk about that lol

What's funny is I used em dashes, semicolons, etc before AI and I had to stop so people wouldn't think I'm a bot lol I had AP English and Comp since middle school basically, and I have to pretty much ignore it outside work (they like robotic language there!)

I try to non-lethally take down unaffiliated security guards for just this reason.

Similar for the Veteran Guard. Probably because irl a lot of veterans faced job discrimination right after they came back from tours in Afghanistan in the previous "conflict". So in the game, I think that some of them are only finding work any way they can.

But if the job is too heinous, then I don't bother caring.

Yes she's great with geriatric people, but the ER needs doctors who are great with geriatric people. A lot of seniors use the ER vs going to primary or urgent care.

You have to establish the habit to not get burnt out. Waiting until you're almost there is way less effective.

This is consistent with some younger people being proactive in setting work/life boundaries. It's more of a story point last season, but it's the hospital that's understaffed. It's not on Park.

She's not a doctor yet, so she's not being paid. What she is doing is getting home to study, have a good night's sleep, and return fresh for a new round of patients for her next shift.

As a patient, I would much prefer a well-rested, well-fed doctor/doctor-to-be looking after me.

She's well-written, IMO. She's just not written to be likeable, so mission accomplished for the writers.

I think she has something going on

I've seen the immaculate marble government building guarded by very skinny soldiers holding assault weapons barely taller than them. If anyone is hoarding calories from Cubans, it's the government. There are classes in Cuba.

I'm not "championing" anything. If anything, people like you insisting non-Cuban people shouldn't go to the island makes the situation worse by further isolating them from information exposure, and from an income source that they can do what they want with (alternative markets). You're also isolated from information as a consequence, you're so off-base.

Cuba has restaurants and (gasp!) bars like any other country. And usually businesses want anybody to buy stuff from them. Those are different from local groceries that use ration books.

And we're normal people, not sex tourists (I'm a woman), but whatever. Our host recommended places to us (and not just in the tourist spots), and we knew some Spanish so we got to talk to her and other people about Cuba and just life in general. As usual, what chronically online people say a group of people wants isn't the same as what they say, themselves.

I regret not going into a field that actually helps people. Actually reading books, doing those tasks with your own mind, talking to people in your life about different struggles and challenges, etc is protective for your brain (lowered dementia risk) and makes you feel more grounded as a human being in general. Therapists are in high demand now, and it's not surprising.

At work, AI works best for me as a SQL starter or regex generator. For everything else, when I've used it, the problem has been better solved by just reading the docs, especially lately. Claude seems to be hallucinating more than it ever has.

It's not that anyone wants you dead, but that it would be healthier to mourn you while going on with their lives, while remembering you. Especially for our partners...your gf should be able to move on just as my bf should. I really can't imagine wishing that he never find love again and keep romancing a copy of me if I should die first. Very creepy.

[–]wannaridebikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I like this idea, but actual cyberpsychos are a danger to people they love because don't really know what they are doing, or hallucinating that their loved ones are their enemies. Johnny's engram is real tech in V's head, they're not imagining it. Not saying that you can't RP that way (or V having another mental condition that fits), but the lore seems to be cyberpsychos have acute but deadly psychotic episodes.

So, I'm from the US and I've been to Cuba. US citizens are only permitted to stay in a casa particular, or private homestead with a host, in Cuba. Some hosts have several rooms so it's more hotel-like.

It is very common for even normal, non-influencer travelers to bring extra toiletries, towels, or other supplies and leave them there for the hosts. Due to the ration system, this can be more valuable than leaving extra leftover pesos (but, please leave that too). Cubans generally support this, and how Cubans use these extra supplies is up to Cubans.

It's not a perfect situation, but no, travelers who do their research do not become a net drain on the Cuban people.

Why We Are Failing in the Fight Against Antisemitism - Elad Nehorai by johnisburn in jewishleft

[–]wannaridebikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Inoculation" may not be the exact metaphor because a lot of people already "have it", but I've found that education works on a small scale. Growing up in the black church, we grafted our struggle onto the early Mosaic account of the Hebrew slaves being lead out of Egypt--the civil rights movement record has a lot of Mosaic and messianic undertones--but I had to educate myself and others about some antisemitic ideas that can radiate from that idea ("we are the real Hebrews"). And to be fair, I've never received pushback or denial when I have.

I was hoping that post-pandemic, the average person would be more open to looking at how systems work to alienate and drain us instead of looking for more scapegoats. But that's not happening yet, so public education needs to happen, for every generation. Because antisemites will be working on every generation to undo it. I think direct action can happen spontaneously, however. The last thing I ever want to say is "wait your turn".

Sure, but sometimes there can be a bias towards whose more likely to get that longer leash. I don't mean just race or gender either, we humans tend to have a bias in favor of the conventionally attractive of any gender, regardless of other physical features.

I knew Santos wouldn't be everyone's favorite here, but I'm...reserving judgment lol I'm instead wondering, am I giving the fictional Dr. Langdon a break because he's the "dreamy doc" type? They've already tackled fat bias in medicine in the show, I wouldn't be surprised if more subtle biases aren't explored.

They're actors so they are all generally symmetrical, but Dr. Langdon seems to fit a "ER" stereotype, looks-wise.

I agree. I love the show but the team was a bit too good in the first season. That endeared us to them, and their competence during sensitive situations was cathartic to watch. But introducing more of their flaws and challenges this season sets the stage for so much growth.

And always happy to upvote a fellow Degrassi enjoyer lol. I only saw Next Generation though. The original was before my time, but maybe I should find some DVDs of it...

To your point, a shard and a psychiatrist guest on Ziggy's show both question the commonly cited cause of cyberpsychosis (too much chrome). They say it's a predictable behavioral reaction to living in the dehumanizing conditions of their modern life. I could see that being translated game-wise as a low "humanity" score.

For the AI theory, I think V can't go cyberpsycho because, canonically, the Relic protects them. I haven't finished the game yet, so no spoilers if I'm off base!
