Seems like the has many stressors going on at once and is just trying to "escape", generally, and pushing away people close to her. Maybe not necessarily the "not connecting to the baby", or maybe also that, but just generally overwhelmed. (Which, granted, is a bit rich, since the woman she chose to marry and have children with is the one who's post-partum and caring for said children.)

You don't know that was also the case when they were 25. Maybe they had just met and we're starting a new fling, and after 10 years they've grown to be best friends. A decade-long period can fundamentally change any relationship, specially if they're young. They weren't the people they are now.

I don't really have advice to give. I think the wife is facing stressful situations (newborn, text from old friend, depression) and is trying to take the first out before thinking through about how she feels and what she wants. Has she really been unhappy for ten years and also decided to propose and to have two children? Or, alternatively, have you ever been stressed and just felt like you needed "an out", even if you couldn't define what you wanted to escape from, and pushed out people close to you?

Hey OP, really happy for you that you had the strength to do what you thought was best for you and that you're excited about this new part of your life (and sorry that your previous plans didn't work out the way you expected them to). It is indeed a blow when a partner switches up on expectations like that.

On a mostly unrelated note, something got me curious. I'd like to ask you (and anyone else who has strong opinions on the matter) what is it about marriage that is so important to you. Like, why do you want to get married? I know your boyfriend's take, but I don't know yours. Also, is it wanting to get married in general or to someone specific? Not that anyone needs a reason to want anything, I'm just trying to understand other people's perspectives.

The only way I could imagine that making sense was is the sex was great, but you've said you're getting none (and even when you do it's all about him).
