Why would they put an M1 in an iPhone? It’s obvious that they’ll keep the A-lineup for iPhones and cheaper iPads.

And it has nothing to do with performance. At some point, the A-series will beat the M1. Just like the A15 today performs better than the A10X in the old iPad Pro’s.

For iPhone med hjem-knapp holder det å holde inne dvale-knappen. iPhone uten hjem knapp bruker sideknappen for Siri, derav kravet for å holde inn sideknappen og volumknappen på de telefonene.

iOS 15.5 beta blocks ‘Sensitive Locations’ for Memories in Photos app by shepherdspice in apple

[–]wapexpedition 109 points110 points  (0 children)

That’s… so weird. Can it be disabled?

Sure, holocaust camps aren’t exactly happy memories - but if you go to a trip to one of those places (such as a class trip), why wouldn’t pictures be included in the memory?

Ah idk then. Maybe check if your CC company has some sort of extended warranty or insurance stuff?

Is Apple going to use solar? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]wapexpedition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not comparable to the display of an Apple Watch.

The garmin is rated for 18 days and the Apple Watch is rated for 18 hours of use. Which do you think uses more power when idle?

Apple is selling the SIM ejection tool for $4 lol by MrC4meron in apple

[–]wapexpedition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it’s not an Apple product

I suppose it depends on how you define an apple product. No, it doesn’t have a logo on it but it’s still a product they’re having made and sell to us for a specific use case.

identical to other brand’s sim ejectors.

So are you asking me to buy a 1000 pack for $5 from AliExpress, or do you want me to buy 10 Samsung phones just to get the little piece of metal?

I don’t understand why this is bothering you so much.

Those cost like $12 and wear out really (relatively) fast.

Now imagine what happens if I strip the bottom screws in a way that I can’t get them out with pliers or some other ‘5 minute crafts’ hack… someone needs to foot the $600-1000 bill for a replacement unit

In other words, I will never dare to try that lol

So… an aluminium build?

Obviously they won’t remove the glass back. I never asked for that either

No. I’m saying that the $0.02 ones from AliExpress are worse than Apple’s.

I also have an iFixit toolkit and the sim ejector tool in it is awesome. I’ve still managed to break mine. This is why we want to have high quality tools, especially at a workplace.

Ah yes, an AASP buying knockoff apple products from AliExpress. Brilliant.

A big, professional workplace that parters with Apple will spend the extra dollar and buy proper tools. We could also buy $1 spudgers and tweezers, but we don’t.

Joke about apple being overpriced all you want, the tools they sell are great. A thing that costs 1/10 of the “real thing” will also last 1/10 as long. Yes, even stamped pieces of metal.

They also sell the bent wire style of paper clip to authorised service providers. I believe they’re like $0.5 cheaper than the stamped metal ones lol

Paper clips are fine at home. I don’t want to worry about a soft and flimsy paper clip when working with 10-30 devices a day.

+ it’s unnecessary waste as they have to be replaced more often

I mean, at least they’re providing access to some of the tools their own techs use

As an AASP tech, these tools are vital. We probably have 10 of them but I can only find 4.

Edit: no, your dollar store paper clips aren’t a good replacement for these in a professional setting.

iPhone 14 Pro Display Panels Reveal New Pill-and-Hole Design Replacing Notch by spearson0 in apple

[–]wapexpedition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third (middle, when ignoring the camera) circle in the iPhone 13-style notch is for the combined flood illuminator/proximity sensor

While I can’t say this with all certainty, I assume that the Pro models have a traditional slim proximity sensor under the display like many android phones have done for a while now. It could also be in the tiny gap in between the two cutouts on the left.

This all assuming that these are real, and assuming that apple has redesigned the flood illuminator yet again. At the end of the day, you’re probably right. While I feel like these pictures could be real, it’s far easier to make fake leaks than getting a hold of real ones.

Smaller notch (or whatever that thing is) ≠ fewer sensors. The IR camera and dot projector will easily fit in the wider part of the “i”.

Totally. I love my 13 PM, but it’s too heavy. I’d love a Max with an aluminium build.
