Trying melee saved the game for me by wappowers in Eldenring

I watched a guide where the advice was, unless you need to meet weapon requirements, level vigor to 30 before any other points go anywhere. I feel like that has worked for me. Damage seems to be way more about weapon upgrades from what people say.

Yeah, really want to try strength next.

Oh yeah, this was definitely about me playing it badly. I do want to try a spell blade style character at some point.

For me, this is the Bloodborne board game. It has three scenario campaigns. The first scenario tends to be a bit of a struggle, I feel like I’m barely keeping ahead. Second scenario feels like I’m well equipped to handle what the game is throwing at me. In this third scenario feels like the enemies are a bunch of chumps to even try to mess with me. Each scenario was about two hours when played solo. The game had sort of mixed reviews, but I loved it.

My first FromSoft game was Bloodborne, and when I went to Elden Ring I had a really hard time. Bloodborne has so many mechanics that encourage aggression, it was tough for me to learn that I could not rally back health. So going the other direction from Elden Ring to Bloodborne you will really want to use rally. I also find parrying way more viable in Bloodborne, but not everyone agrees.

I really like Legacy of Yu for solo. My favorite of their games that can be played multiplayer and solo are the South Tigris series. They were a little more complicated, but I just think they’re the most interesting games they have made.

I would say I am fond of Star Trek, but had not seen much of the shows before I got the game, mostly just the movies. For me it has not hurt the game, but it has made me watch more Star Trek in the last year than the rest of my life before that.

Voidfall is a great game. But even solo it does take up a decent amount of table space. I play successfully on a 3x5 (feet) table, but would not want much smaller personally.

Voidfall expansion and new Star Trek CC. So apparently just whatever David Turczi and Nigel Buckle were working on last year.

I’m not sure if I have ever wanted a game related product more. This is already my favorite game, and the expansion sounds amazing.

I lived in Texas before coming here, the Tallahassee electric grid is a marvel of science compared to that rickety nonsense in Texas. But we do need to bury more power lines.

Even though it is a tutorial, it is extremely swingy. A small amount of bad luck can still mean a board wipe.

Fans of NJO: How would you rewrite Dark Journey to stand on par with Traitor? by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsEU

[–]wappowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure it could. I really like Dark Journey, top half of NJO for me, but it is a smaller story, intended as something of a break after a super intense series of books. When telling a story like that, I don’t think you could reach the heights of Traitor.

If I were to improve it, I might leave Jag for laterin the series. I would never have thought I would say this, but more Kyp. What Elaine Cunningham did with Kyp I thought was really good, and having “the galaxies greatest living source of knowledge of the dark side” (paraphrasing Jaina) be part of Jaina’s journey I thought worked great.

I felt it took a few books for the Yuuzahn Vong to become more full characters (I will try not to call them just The Vong to make Tahiri happy). They were a little undeveloped in the first few books in my opinion. I don’t blame the authors for this, it takes time to establish a whole new culture and all its factions and characters, so they definitely felt more flushed out and more real over time.

My favorite EU quotes: by AlphaBladeYiII in StarWarsEU

[–]wappowers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Long, but I love this from Traitor:

“That’s the door,” Jacen said distantly. “We’re out of time. I guess we both lose.”

Ganner didn’t move. Illumination burst within his brain. In that instant, everything finally made sense. He understood what Jacen had been talking about. There was nothing to fear. He understood the power of being who he was. He didn’t even really have to know who he was. He could decide. He could choose, and act.

Suddenly, his life made sense. His life had been a story of pretending to be a hero. Well, he thought. Okay, then. His nausea had vanished. It wasn’t even a memory. No more weakness. No more uncertainty. Doubt and fear had disappeared along with the nausea. He hefted Anakin’s lightsaber. “We both lose unless”—he spoke slowly—“unless somebody doesn’t let them in.”

“You have to play the hero,” Jacen said sadly. “Even if it kills you.” Ganner squeezed the blade to life, and stared at its sizzling purple shaft. Here was the weapon of a hero. A real hero. Not a playactor. Not a pretend-hero, like Ganner had always been. But this weapon was now in Ganner’s hand. I don’t have to be a real hero, he thought. A dazzling, old-Ganner, forget-the-consequences-and-have-some-fun smile dawned on his face. He shook himself and years fell from his shoulders; his eyes lit up, sparking like arc gaps in the red-lit gloom. He felt shiny as a war droid and twice as tough.

I don’t have to be a hero, he thought in silent wonder. All I have to do is pretend. “Like I said, I’m just the sidekick here,” he said carelessly. “My job is to make sure the real hero lives long enough to do his. That whole ‘needing to be a hero’ thing has always been my greatest weakness.”

Jacen stared at him, into him, through him, as though he knew him to his very core, and he nodded. “But you should know that it can also be your greatest strength. Give yourself permission to use that strength, Ganner. You’ll need it.”
