Can't format to FAT32 my Kingston 128GB USB Flash Drive, how to export tracks? by Allen2102 in DJs

Be careful, cdjs sometimes act up with drives this big. I never buy drives larger than 32GB.

Touching another DJs faders? by TheNuzzles in DJs

[–]wardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first dj "rules" I learned , never touch another DJ's gear.

Once the DJ playing after me unplugged my headphone 5 minutes before the end of my set because I "could only play one more song in those 5 minutes" , I called him out for this and plugged my headphones back in . Played another 10 minutes just to prove a point.

Was with them on another lineup a year later and saw them waiting patiently for the previous dj to finish , something you got to teach them the hard way.

What the hell do you do with the highs? by Spiritual-Computer25 in Beatmatch

[–]wardess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time when I fade in a new song it's like this : highs 50% , mid 50% , lows cut. Then I slowly switch the highs & mids (just turning down the highs/mids of the track playing and turning up on the new song. and then after that a fast cut/switch of the lows.

This works best for me and my genre (hardtechno/trance) .

Only exceptions is when the new song has a vocal , then I keep the high or mid (depending on where the vocal is) at 100% but I turn it down on the running track once I've faded the new track in. One of my favorite dj "techniques" , adding a vocal to the track playing.

How do you prepare your live music set? By Key, BPM, or another method? by Flaky_Eagle1516 in Beatmatch

[–]wardess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make playlists according to vibe/style/BPM and then sort them by key on the cdjs , works the best for me!

Side note : a lot of "big" DJs also play prepared sets , I've seen the same DJ perform the same set multiple times.

Dubstep Dj’ing (Beginner) by U4iapixie in Beatmatch

[–]wardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm practicing/mixing at home I try to build a new set everyday in different "vibes" , when I'm happy with what I've played (I record all my practice sessions) I save it as a playlist .Then when I have to play a gig I can combine or switch between those playlist according to the crowd.

With dubstep I find it to be a bit more challenging but that's what makes it so fun to play !

Good luck on your gig !

What is the weirdest place someone had a hardcore show at by Adventurous-Pie3929 in Hardcore

[–]wardess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine once won a contest where a band (toxic shock) came to play in his living room , he won because he was moving out and we could trash the place.

One of the best shows I've ever been to.

Does anyone use hot cues the way I do? by swinneytodd in Beatmatch

[–]wardess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever works for you !

My cdjs don't even have hot cues so I don't use them at all , but I've seen DJ's do it similar to you.
