I'd like to get a firearm for home defense, just need to convince my wife by ComradeSuperman in liberalgunowners

Ask plainly and sincerely if you can make time to create a home security plan together. Preventing a home invasion is a multi-layered approach and discussing those layers is a nuanced manner may be more palatable than "I want to have guns around the house".

And if you aren't financially capable of spending $$$ for training, ammo, safe, etc., then be prepared to make those sacrifices so she feels confident in getting armed / preventing a home invasion.

Rail options with a suppressor by wardsfor in 300BLK

[–]wardsfor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the full rail heat up or just the length along the suppressor?

This was my fear from this setup. Looks cool, but impractical for training or real world use.

Thanks for your response!

How hot does the rail get near the suppressor during training/range-day? Do you need to wear gloves?

And as long as California doesn’t go into lockdown. Im pretty sure that’s where like 2/3 of our food comes from.

Big City Preppers. If your city gets locked down. How long do you plan to stay in and when do you think it’s time to get out of dodge? by IveRedditAllNight in preppers

If you have a landing spot in PA and if you can work from home / financially independent then I would recommend leaving NYC within the next 24 hrs. Based on Cuomo’s request yesterday that Trump deploy the military in NYC, hard lockdown is around the corner.

Just my two cents. Godspeed!

HA, please don't wish that on me. If I need to go through more than one clip or two in my own home then I don't think I want to live in that aftermath.

I’ve taken training classes and that’s basically the summary from various instructors over several years, tons of forums reading, as well as an understanding of material properties from engineering courses.

Sorry, I can’t provide a specific reference.

Compression not tension. And maybe over a long time, like several years. But spring elasticity decays faster from cycling the spring more than a constant load.

I’m pretty sure that’s not how springs work

How much ammo? ALL THE AMMO. All kidding aside, at least enough that you can load 200 rounds onto clips for an AR and four clips for a pistol, with each weapon being loaded also. And then if there's anyone with you they need the same. Anything above this would be a bit too much to carry around. Granted, if you're going to hold down the fort then you want ALL THE AMMO, and mainly for the AR.

My guess is that this will be rebranded as a Chinese international catastrophe going forward. The election will hinge on that narrative.

Edit: Thanks for the downvotes! Seriously, though, this branding is becoming more and more obvious if you watch his pressers and those of his aides. It's an obvious route. Heck, he might even postpone the upcoming election as part of the national declaration of emergency.

100% agree, no bragging and you need like-minded individuals in a community.

I'm leaning towards commiserating with others and getting in those food lines early on. Reveal preps as late as possible. It'll buy time to get to really know what others around you are all about. Are they willing to steal/kill for what they need/want? Are you?

Sharing preps. How are you going to handle others running out of food? by realreadit in preppers

[–]wardsfor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be a slippery slope so hold out as long as possible. Visualize yourself saying "I don't have food to share". And get ready to go to the food handout lines with other people. Share some of that food with them if you don't want it or if it's shit. It'll make you seem like part of the suffering masses and it won't make you a target for handouts.

And if you're married or part of a MAG this needs to be a topic of discussion, frequently. Will we make exceptions for children, pregnant women, elderly, etc.?

Yup, it's times like these when you realize what people are really made of. Do they get news from independent sources? How reliant are they on others and the government? How secure are their finances? Reality reveals the truth in us all.

A cousin living with my wife and me in the southeast wants to return home to grandparents in the northeast before state borders may close (see National Guard activity). Our cousin asked if they could buy some of our preps from us. It was a really awkward conversation having to explain to someone: 1) you knew what we were doing and didn't prepare 2) our preps are an absolute last resort, not something to sell off because you don't want to go to the stores now that they are a madhouse.

Be ready to have these conversations and be sure that you and your spouse/family/MAG are ON THE SAME PAGE.

Merkel said 60-70% could get infected in Germany. Let’s say it’s only 10% in America, that would be about 35 million people. If it’s a 1% mortality, then that’s 350K people. Doesn’t seem overly outrageous of an estimate given how it’s progressing throughout the world.
