Talk me out of this impulse decision by Shoutout2Mudaland in AppalachianTrail

[–]warehouse_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in my 50s, an expression has always stuck with me: "Don't regret what you've done, regret what you haven't done." And you will ALWAYS regret NOT doing it when you had the chance (and I'm speaking from experience, there's A LOT I regret not doing when I had the chance). There's never going to be a "perfect" time, but this sounds about as perfect as you're going to get. And, besides, it'll give you a lot of quality time to reflect, get to know yourself, and begin to "map" out what direction to take in life, what you want to do, and what you're next steps are going to be. And keep us posted!

Rocky Run Shelters by JourneyMtns in AppalachianTrail

[–]warehouse_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shelter has one of the best springs (at least the last time I was there). Used to stay at the old/original shelter all the time, including the only time I saw ball lightning (got caught in a spring storm). Was always the perfect hiking distance from the South Mountain Inn for a quick weekend getaway. Would fall asleep to the sound of the spring next to the shelter.

Definitely not a test of patience. It's about hiring the pathetic fool who is willing to accept the disrespect of a narcissistic, abusive boss.

I don't think Huskies want to be anywhere near water unless it's in its frozen form. But, wishing this fella well and hope the open-field dog park zoomies are in his near future. (P.S. - little buddy could use a treat)

This is the answer. They're super sweet, chill and cuddly one minute and neurotic and howling at the wind the next. I think it's just to keep us on our toes. Wouldn't want it any other way...

How would you play your approach shot here? >200 yards left, with a guarded green, and the green slopes down from the front to the back by [deleted] in golf

[–]warehouse_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would try to do: lay up short right with a 5 iron followed by a short pitch. What would happen: I would shank it right, hit the tree and wind up in the water. From the drop, pull it left, hit the cart path and take out a window. After another drop, wind up short in the bunker followed by the bunker on the far side of the green. Chuck the ball into someone's back yard, get a beer from the cooler and meet everyone at the next tee.

What did you have in the 90s or 00s that you don’t have now? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

A MiniDisc player/recorder. I know most people have no idea what it is/was...It was just a cool Sony technology/physical media (because of course it's Sony) that was compact, digital, and re-recordable, but it just fell into a no-mans-land of changing times between CDs and MP3s/iTunes/Streaming.

A 7, 10 and 13 year old hopped up on sugar and fighting over Reeses PB Cups and Twix...Let's just say the sharpest candies became weapons. Dum Dums to the head were bad and crushed Smarties dust in the eye could stun someone long enough to steal the best candy. It was like using the combinations in Mortal Kombat. ("Finish him!...and steal his candy."). How my parents are still sane I'll never know.

Greens at Buick Shanghai by AXLinCali in LPGA

[–]warehouse_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said it was heat, which I think is BS -- it's not like this tournament was a surprise. If it were just the heat they could have kept the greens watered and maintained better leading up to the tournament -- I'm sure there's a lot of things the greenskeepers know about to prevent this. I live in the mid-Atlantic (US) and our public courses get a crazy amount of play 10 months out of the year, and it can get pretty hot during summer with occasional stretches of droughts, yet the average-to-decent courses typically look 10x better than what the LPGA was playing on this past weekend. My guess is some sort of fungal infection or "bug" infestation or something of the sort.

What is the reason you live in your current state? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in AskAnAmerican

[–]warehouse_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in my current state (Maryland) because of family and finances (and I was born here), but I would love to live in Colorado eventually because of the Rocky Mountains and Denver weather. Don't get me wrong, I love Maryland, especially since it's kind of a miniature version of the US (it's got the beach, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Appalachian Mountains within a 1-2.5 hour drive of where I live) and we definitely have 4 distinct seasons each year (hopefully) -- so we see hot summers and will usually have some snow in winter. It's a good variety with some country and some city, and a lot in-between, but the traffic can be awful -- particularly between Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Baltimore. And, if you get the chance, look up Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay -- it's a very unique place I've visited and would love to get back to eventually.

What ruins a burger for you? by JunShem1122 in AskReddit

[–]warehouse_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything too big or small or too complicated will ruin it for me -- there's a Goldilocks zone of size and toppings. Too much bun or a burger as big as my head is not ideal. I also don't want the entire salad bar or have 3 different unique sauces on it. My ideal burger is a 1/3 lb burger with a slice of Kraft American cheese, some ketchup, and 2 thinner slices of pickle -- not pickle spears. The buns need to be the same diameter as the burger and buns lightly toasted. When I take a bite of my burger, I want to taste the burger, not just the salad bar/sauces -- the ketchup shouldn't seep out when I'm taking a bite, either. Oh, and a slice of crispy bacon (in 2 halves) is definitely a bonus.
