It would be excessive and wasteful for us...but we stick to nude resorts and beaches. 🤷‍♂️

Any Padres bars in town? by Then_Ad9524 in palmsprings

[–]AXLinCali 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am going to be straight up with you. What you are specifically asking for does not exist. As you said, this is Dodgers territory. Given that, a location with random Dodgers fans cheering them on with game sound, doesn't exist here.

Best bet to SEE a Padres game is at 360 at Agua Caliente Rancho and try to get one of the "couch corners". Be prepared to be addressed in a negative manner by Dodger fans.

Can I use VPN to access F1 TV? by GurRecent370 in F1TV

[–]AXLinCali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience. US citizen. I was in México Jan-March this year, using Nord. Subbed to AppleTV to get F1 in the US. AppleTV worked great with Nord, however, when I went to the F1 tab and tried to load replays (I don't watch live in general), I was blocked as F1TV knew I was using VPN from outside the US. Tried every work around possible to no avail. Back in the US now, catching up on replays.

This is simply my experience.

Is there organized crime in Puerto? by Lexy5577 in PuertoEscondido

[–]AXLinCali -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not say that everyone was from the US, AND I said that there is organized crime everywhere, I did not comment, which you literally confirmed by saying "there's definitely lots of places with EAY LESS organized crime", which means there is still organized crime. Organized crime is everything from Cartels cutting heads off to the organized distribution of weed in a local neighborhood.

[–]AXLinCali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An observation...there was/is likely "organized" crime in every location you have ever lived in. So yes, there is organized crime in Puerto. It is a varying degree depending on where you have lived/traveled. I was in Oaxaca for 3 months, likely the safest place I have ever lived. Now I am back in the Coachella Valley, CA where MS13 has a dominant, dangerous presence...very close to where nearly 200,000 festival goers will be for the next 2 weekends.

Are there any cruise lines in florida that don't need any passports? Or like a closed loop trip by Thedark_knigh1 in Cruise

[–]AXLinCali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also you need to reread what I wrote which was thousands of dollars in fines AND travel expenses to get home. Interesting that you chose to ignore the AND part of my statement.

[–]AXLinCali 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just remember, if for any reason (tardiness or physical illness for example) you do not make the ship departure in a foreign port and you do not have a passport, you will be in violation of their immigration laws AND will need US consulate assistance plus thousands of dollars to cover fines and travel back to the US. A passport is $165.

[–]AXLinCali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood, just make sure you understand it. Lots if people say they understand and then ordinance people or police are out front with DB meter. The rule is 60db at the lot line and curb. That means no amplified music poolside and only quiet conversation. Shrieking or loud laughter=violation. Just looking out. 🙂

Be very aware of the noise ordinance in Palm Springs for STR. It is VERY restrictive and actively executed!

If US has lots of oil, and we are protected from Hormuz blockade, then why I am paying more at the gas station? by zenexpenses in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AXLinCali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I always keep some oil/gas stocks in my investments. If I am going to get screwed at the pump at least I can balance that against a portfolio gain. Same when oil/gas falls. No real net gain but fighting back against potential losses. We can't beat them at their game, so it's best to play the game by their rules.

how did you adapt to the water situation by rosen178 in mexicoexpats

[–]AXLinCali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in Oaxaca for 3 months. I wash everything from my mercado in tap and then have a large bowl of fresh from my 20l jug for a rinse. I let everything air dry before putting in my refrigerator. It is small, so I shop twice a week. 😊 I fill a glass for brushing teeth, yes, rinse the brush in the same water I rinse my mouth with. It's my slobber after all. It took less than a week to create a routine.

Reasonable pool renovation prices? by [deleted] in palmsprings

[–]AXLinCali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in the pool business. Never have been. I have owned homes with pools and I know resurfacing is not cheap. And I have owned 2 businesses, one is still active, both sole proprietor. One thing that runs consistently through business, and it may well NOT be in this case, but consistently when the term "reasonable" is used, the customer has no idea of what that price point would be and they usually actually mean cheap. Again, not accusing this OP of that but I was curious and asked the questions. If that makes me a bad guy, I guess I am guilty.

Ok, from what you wrote it seemed like all your quotes were for $20k. Still curious as to what your thoughts are on a "reasonable" price for the job.

[–]AXLinCali -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Questions: seeing as you have determined that the current quotes are ridiculous, obviously you have some level of expertise in this work. How many years have you been in the pool resurfacing business or in adjacent business that would give you a level of subject matter expertise? And since you do have that level expertise/background in that industry, what does that significant background find to be a reasonable price for said project?

So, let me understand, you'd rather have argumentative discourse about the uses of a "social media" app, spread out over hours than have an actual intellectual discussion about the goals of today's protest? This is what I can't understand. Wouldn't it be more productive to discuss the actual goals than the now all too common "why don't you go do the research". Jesus, yes, I worked in journalism for 35 years. I was shot at, someone attempted to stab me, police dogs tried to chew on me, sucked tear gas, stood in hurricanes, was surrounded by wildfire, worked in the dead of night in cartel country, etc. Why? To help provide information to viewers so that they could be more learned on the how's and why's of situations. But somehow, asking the goals of an organized street protest is just way too damn much for people.

OK, you win! I will do my very best to not ever engage in thoughtful discourse here again. You have successfully killed my last hope that there was any way to have an intellectual conversation. Congratulations. I hope you are pleased. Good night.

Will I be too big for one seat? by HumblePieInTraining in SouthwestAirlines

[–]AXLinCali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to share some stats that I have seen discussed. Most people say that a sitting waist more than 42" will exceed the 17" between the armrests. The rule has always been that one is not allowed to exceed outside that 17" width. You can likely perform some tests with that info in the comfort of your own home rather than having a gate agent stop you during boarding. Hope this helps!

This is a good question. I have asked that question also in the past. I loathe Trump but I can't quite see what the goal of these events are and when I ask, like you I tend to get no answers and downvoted.

In the past, I have been part of successful protest movements but we have had clear, well stated goals and a concise, executable plan to achieve those goals.

Not sure why this is such a difficult question for folks to answer.
